The Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) is a peer reviewed, PubMed-indexed video journal. Our mission is to increase the productivity of scientific research.
The JoVE video player is compatible with HTML5 and Adobe Flash. Older browsers that do not support HTML5 and the H.264 video codec will still use a Flash-based video player. We recommend downloading the newest version of Flash here, but we support all versions 10 and above.

The Experion™ RNA Run video provides a detailed explanation of how RNA run data are generated using the Experion automated electrophoresis system and highlights the salient features that help evaluate the RNA analysis data. The video offers a brief glimpse into the technology of electropherogram generation and goes through the RNA run with the aid of screenshots generated using the Experion software. It takes the viewer through evaluation of both total RNA assays and mRNA assays, how many RNA peaks to expect, how they should look, where they should lie, how they differ in the two assays, and what considerations need to be made for assuring a successful run. In addition to aiding in the interpretation of the electropherogram data, the video also explains how the RQI (RNA quality indicator) value that the Experion software generates can be used to assess RNA integrity and how to decipher a poor quality of RNA as reflected in electropherograms. It displays virtual gel images for both total RNA and mRNA assays and describes the features that should be visible in a virtual gel following a successful RNA run.
