It is amazing that a tiny cell knows what it needs to do in the context of its surroundings but we haven't been able to fully figure it out yet. The day we master this understanding would be a giant leap for mankind!! Imagine being able to read the DNA blueprint just like a cell does and being able to model the whole process of cell multiplication and communication on a computer all the way to multicellular organ and organism formation. Once we can simulate the formation of a multicellular organism on the computer based on its DNA , we will have limitless possibilities of curing diseases because we will be able to predict the impact of different environment variables or bio chemicals on the growth and development of this multicellular organism and all of this in a virtual computer model.
It would be great if we can focus our attention on a single cell and understand what directs its behaviour and reaction with its environment and eventually be able to predict it.
Ok, ok, I am a computer programmer but getting more and more fascinated by the advances in molecular biology and bio-technology and looking for ways to participate in this exciting discipline.
