Rothstein, J. D. ALS - Motor Neuron Disease: Mechanism and Development of New Therapies. J. Vis. Exp. (6), e245, doi:10.3791/245 (2007).
My father has been diagnosed with ALS.
His symptoms began about one year ago. On Jan. 5, 2008, he went into respiratory arrest, but through CPR & shock. he survived.
He is 82 years old, but has always been in great health & is a strong man. After 9 weeks at the UAMS, he has been home for almost 5 months & is doing very well. He lifts weights everyday, does leg excercises, & various other excercises to maintain his strength. He has a good outlook on his disease, he is totally coherant and does everything we can think of to slow down the progression of this disease & maintain a quality of life.
He has an appt. with an ALS specialist on Sept. 8, 2008. I would like to know as much about this disease as possible, especially the new developments with stem cell research. I have researched this very thoroughly already, but I wasn't aware until yesterday that there may be hope through stem cell research.
Please send me anything informative that you may have. I have a lot of questions for the dr. at the appt. scheduled, but I would like to be more informed.
Thank you very much,
Janet Dean (daughter & primary caregiver)
