Lindquist, S. Interview: Protein Folding and Studies of Neurodegenerative Diseases. J. Vis. Exp. (17), e786, doi:10.3791/786 (2008).

Abstract: Interview: Protein Folding and Studies of Neurodegenerative Diseases

In this interview, Dr. Lindquist describes relationships between protein folding, prion diseases and neurodegenerative disorders. The problem of the protein folding is at the core of the modern biology. In addition to their traditional biochemical functions, proteins can mediate transfer of biological information and therefore can be considered a genetic material. This recently discovered function of proteins has important implications for studies of human disorders. Dr. Lindquist also describes current experimental approaches to investigate the mechanism of neurodegenerative diseases based on genetic studies in model organisms.

I am well aware of Dr Lindquist so it was great to be able to see and hear her rather than reading her Manuscripts.

Protein folding has cropped up many times over at the ALSTDI forum. As such, I've just placed a link to this JoVE Dr Lindquist interview to the thread of most relevance.

I don't think I've left a comment here before.

Kind regards,

Graham
