JoVE Releases New Video-Focused Textbook Resource

Foundational Animations Move Students from Memorization to Understanding

(CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS,  May 20, 2019) — Today, JoVE Core: Bio is being released on the JoVE Science Education platform. Organized into units and chapters, it combines hundreds of high-impact animations of foundational concepts with live-action videos of experimentation to help transform the student learning experience at all levels of post-secondary education.

Whether it is used as a dynamic supplement to an existing textbook, alongside an Open Educational Resource, or as the primary teaching resource in place of an existing textbook, JoVE Core: Bio empowers learners to move beyond memorization into scientific discovery.

Leveling the Playing Field and Supporting Classroom Affordability

Access to JoVE Core: Bio is provided through an institutional subscription, typically through an institution’s library. This model allows faculty at subscribing institutions to assign JoVE Core: Bio at no charge to their students. Additionally, a flexible, low-cost adoption model is available. Classroom affordability initiatives are supported through the use of JoVE Core, allowing all students to access high-quality multimedia content, without overburdening them with the usual high prices of academic materials.

JoVE Core: Bio helps level the playing field among students by supporting learners of all backgrounds, providing them access to high-quality and engaging multimedia, multilingual content. Whether it’s through watching, reading, or listening, with JoVE Core: Bio, students can now take ownership over how they learn.

Global Access Through Dec. 31, 2019

To celebrate the launch of JoVE Core: Bio, JoVE has unlocked access to 100% of the product through Dec. 31, 2019, after which access to JoVE Core will be granted through institutional subscriptions or low-cost, individual student-based subscriptions.

Tested, Vetted Content

During the past two semesters, JoVE Core: Bio was field-tested in some of the nation’s top universities, including Rochester Institute of Technology, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, St. John’s University, San Jose State University, University of Pittsburgh, and Utica College, among others.
