Beatriz H D Panariello

Dr. Beatriz Panariello is a DDS with a MSc and a PhD both in Prosthodontics (Oral Rehabilitation). She has a special spark for science that has led her to work in the Dental Research Field with a focus in Oral Biofilms and ways to treat and prevent these biofilms. Dr. Panariello received her DDS, MSc, and PhD degrees from Sao Paulo State University (UNESP) in Brazil. During her PhD, she was awarded with a scholarship from the Sao Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) to go to New York University College of Dentistry (NYU) as Visiting Scholar to deepen her studies on Candida albicans biofilms and their extracellular matrices. She is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Cariology, Operative Dentistry & Dental Public Health at Indiana University School of Dentistry. Her current research involves the study of bacterial and fungal biofilms involved in oral diseases, as well as microscopic approaches to observe the assembly of these biofilms, the biochemical characterization of their extracellular matrices, and alternative ways to treat and prevent these biofilms, such as the use of blue and red light, antimicrobial photodynamic therapy, the use of low-temperature plasma, the use of ozonized physiological saline solution on peri‐implant‐related biofilms, the use of electromagnetic stimulation for the treatment of root canal infections, and more.
