Bradley M. Conrad
Ph.D. Candidate, Mechanical Engineering

Brad is a Ph.D. candidate with the Energy and Emissions Research Lab at Carleton University investigating black carbon (BC) emissions from gas flaring in the upstream oil and gas industry. His research is focused on the Carleton-designed sky-LOSA measurement technique – an optical diagnostic used to quantify BC emissions from in-field flares. The objectives of his research are the implementation of field measurements to derive BC emission factor models and the refinement of the sky-LOSA technique for standardization through uncertainty analyses and the deployment of post-processing algorithms. He has executed field measurement campaigns of BC emissions from flaring activities in Ecuador, Mexico, and Alberta.
