PhD, Team leader CNRS-Inserm

Christian LESTERLIN is a CNRS-Inserm researcher leading the Cell-to-cell DNA transfer team at the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Structural Biochemistry (MMSB) at the University of Lyon, France. He is a molecular geneticist interested in the bacterial cell cycle, especially focusing on the dynamics of DNA and cell proliferation. His publication record is covering a wide range of topics in the field, including regulation of DNA replication, chromosome segregation, cell division, with a specific interest in the regulation of site-specific and homologous recombination and their roles in genomic stability and plasticity. He developed an expertise in super-resolution microscopy that combines very well with molecular genetics approach. He has pioneered the use of 3D-SIM imaging for the visualization of live bacterial cells. He is now implementing this acquired experience to the characterization of DNA and protein machineries dynamics during intra- and inter-species DNA transfer by conjugation in live cell populations.
