Elijah N. McCool

Elijah McCool is a Ph. D. candidate in the Chemistry Department, Michigan State University, in East Lansing, MI. He received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His training is in analytical chemistry and he is in his third year in Dr. Liangliang Sun’s research group. His current project focuses on coupling capillary zone electrophoresis to mass spectrometry for the separation, identification, and characterization of intact proteins in complex proteomes. Direct characterization of intact proteoforms using this platform allows for elucidation of protein-level genetic variation and proteoform specific post-translational modifications that are essential to important biological processes. He hopes to use zebrafish as a model organism to better understand dynamics of biologically significant proteoforms across various stages in early embryonic development.
