International Master of Medicine - Virology

Jonathan Ying Wang is a born and raised Texan. After graduating with a B.S.A. in Biology and a B.S. (Honors) in Radio-Television-Film at the University of Texas at Austin, he moved to Taiwan to pursue an International MSc in Medicine under the guidance of Professor Liang-Tzung Lin at Taipei Medical University.

His research interests include using molecular docking techniques to analyze compounds' interaction sites on virus membrane and capsid proteins and identifying novel pure compounds antiviral efficacy by performing mechanism of action assays. Previous viruses Jonathan has worked on include: HIV, Dengue, Coxsackievirus A16, and Hepatitis C.

In addition to being on the Dean's Honor List in the Moody College of Communications and being a College Scholar in both the College of Natural Sciences and Communications, Jonathan has been an active volunteer in queer organizations that empower and provide sexual health to the LGBTQIA+ community, an entrepreneur in creating a platform to monitor queer health, a featured poet at The Salon, and has written and directed a short film that creates a discussion about being Asian American.
