Kamila Kochan

Kamila is a University Lecturer at School of Chemistry, Monash University. She obtained her PhD in chemistry from Jagiellonian University (Poland) in 2016, where she worked in the Raman Imaging Group investigating models of liver injury and their pathogenesis with the use of vibrational spectroscopy (Raman, FT-IR). During her PhD she also visited several international spectroscopic laboratories including Institute of Photonic Technology (Germany) and Manchester Institute of Biotechnology (UK). Her main research interest involves using vibrational spectroscopy to study pathogens causing sepsis (bacteria, yeast), with particular emphasis on antimicrobial and antifungal resistance (AMR & AFR). In her work she uses rapid, single spectra based approaches (diagnostic purpose: ATR-FTIR, Raman, UV-VIS) as well as advanced nanoscale imaging (mechanism of resistance & modes of drug action: AFM-IR, confocal Raman mapping, etc.). She also works in several other research projects, applying vibrational spectroscopy to biological materials, including a range of cells, tissues, parasites and viruses.
