Lauren Alesi

Lauren Alesi is a PhD candidate in the Ovarian Biology Laboratory at the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute, within the department of

Anatomy and Developmental Biology at Monash University. She completed her undergraduate studies at

Monash University, receiving her Bachelor of Science (Honours) in 2019. This ignited her passion for research and motivated her

to pursue her doctoral studies.

Lauren has a keen interest in female reproductive biology and fertility. Broadly, her current research centres on characterising the impact of cancer therapies on reproductive function and fertility, and using this information to inform the development of new fertility preservation strategies. Specifically, her PhD project focusses on testing a new pharmaceutical fertility preservation technique to prevent chemotherapy-induced infertility using a mouse model. She hopes that this technique could be the first to simultaneously preserve fertility and prevent premature menopause from occurring, whilst also providing both ovarian and uterine protection against chemotherapy-induced damage. A pharmaceutical option such as this would revolutionise the landscape of fertility preservation for young women with cancer.
