He received his bachelor's degree in physics from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, followed by a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.At Colorado State he is part of the cadmium telluride photovoltaics research group. His particular research focus is time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy of cadmium telluride solar cells.
