Shunsuke Muto is a professor at Institute of Materials and Systems for Sustainability and a director of Ultra-high Voltage Electron Microscopy Laboratory in Nagoya University. He received PhD in Materials Physics in 1989 from Graduate School of Engineering Science, Osaka University, Japan. He started his academic career as a research associate with Department of Physics, Osaka University, (posdoc at EMAT, University of Antwerp, Belgium between 1991-1992) followed by joining Nagoya University as an associate professor (1995-2003) of Center for Integrated Research in Science and Engineering, a professor of Graduate School of Engineering (2004-2012) and the present position as of 2013. His current activity involves nano-characterization of wide range of materials using integrated electron spectroscopic methods associated with electron microscopy combined with informatics data processing. He received a Japanese Society of Electron Microscopy Award (Seto Prize) in 2010 for his achievement on "Applications of various novel numerical analysis techniques to electron microscopy."
