Film Your Research video contest – finalists announced. Instructions and link for popular voting are provided in this blog post. It’s time to vote for our favorite videos!

Earlier this year JoVE organized our first-ever Film Your Research video contest for science researchers to showcase their research and stand a chance to win up to $3,000. Early-career scientists were asked to make a 2-minute video featuring themselves or a lab member performing a scientific experiment/technique in the laboratory or the field. The contest deadline ended on June 15, 2017, and we received 100+ submissions from over 30 countries around the world.

Applications were judged based on the following criteria:

  1. The video was within 2-minute duration
  2. The video provided an insight into the “research method” the applicant uses in the laboratory, work space, clinic, or in the field (whichever is applicable)
  3. Filming style and editing style (overall videography)
  4. Overall creativity used in the communication style
  5. Somebody outside the applicant’s area of specialization/field of study should be able to understand the overall essence of the applicant’s research by viewing the video and reading the 200-word description

Top ten applications which scored the highest (based on the above criteria), are now open for public voting. The video with the highest number of popular votes will win the popular choice award of $2,000. Voting period starts on July 31, 2017, and ends on August 21, 2017.

The popular choice award winner will be announced on September 1, 2017, along with the three reviewers’ choice award winners. For any questions regarding this contest or voting process, please email scientistaward@jove.com.

The competition was fierce; several great entries demonstrated cool scientific research in diverse fields. Over the next few months, we will continue showcasing other research videos from this contest, in addition to these ten videos.
