I’m delighted to announce the three winners of JoVE’s third annual Librarian Travel Award. We selected the trio from more than 20 STEM librarian contestants who submitted high-quality essays describing how they help students and researchers improve lab productivity. Our six judges (all librarians and some prior travel-award winners) reviewed and evaluated each essay.

The judges are happy to join me in congratulating:

Kelly Grossmann Getz, STEM Librarian, Eastern Michigan University:

Kelly increased by 150% the number of students receiving science librarian assistance on lab protocols and scholarly scientific writing.

Kelly has already used her award to attend the recent Association of College and Research Libraries annual conference. She told us: “Through my attendance at ACRL, I have been able to gain insight about how academic libraries and librarians work with neurodiversity in modern student populations.”

Daureen Nesdill, Associate Librarian, University of Utah:

Daureen supported the enterprise-wide use of an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN), or lab research project management software.

She told us: “Winning this award will assist with my own research. I am working with marine biologists to develop a data and tools platform for studying southern right whales.” To that end, she’ll attend the Annual International Association of Marine and Aquatic Science Libraries and Information Centers in Port Aransas, Texas.

Jodi Coalter, University of Maryland, College Park:

Jodi designed a program to train students in best practices for field research, data collection, and data management.

She told us: “As a new librarian, I am just understanding my place in the greater library world, so having a chance to learn at a conference from those who have been in the field longer is invaluable.” She’ll attend the Librarian Council of Botanical and Horticultural Libraries 2020 Annual Meeting in Phoenix.

JoVE Congratulations!

These librarians exemplify the best of their profession — and JoVE is proud to help support them in their endeavors.
