Poznan University of Physical Education 2 articles published in JoVE Neuroscience Functional Isolation of Single Motor Units of Rat Medial Gastrocnemius Muscle Hanna Drzymała-Celichowska*1,2, Jan Celichowski*1 1Department of Neurobiology, Poznań University of Physical Education, 2Department of Biochemistry, Poznań University of Physical Education This method allows the recording of the force of twitch and tetanic contractions and action potentials in three types of motor units in the rat medial gastrocnemius muscle. The functional isolation of a single motor unit is induced by electrical stimulation of the axon. Neuroscience In Vivo Intracellular Recording of Type-Identified Rat Spinal Motoneurons During Trans-Spinal Direct Current Stimulation Marcin Bączyk*1, Piotr Krutki*1 1Department of Neurobiology, Poznań University of Physical Education This protocol describes in vivo intracellular recording of rat lumbar motoneurons with simultaneous trans-spinal direct current stimulation. The method enables us to measure membrane properties and to record rhythmic firing of motoneurons before, during and after anodal or cathodal polarization of the spinal cord.
