Automated 90Sr Separation and Preconcentration in a Lab-on-Valve System at Ppq Level Victor Vicente Vilas1, Sylvain Millet1, Miguel Sandow1, Laura Aldave de las Heras1 1Directorate G - Nuclear Safety & Security, Unit G.III. 8 - Waste Management, European Commission, DG Joint Research Centre - JRC Here, we present the portable autoRAD platform for quick radiometric separation and determination of 90Sr, an important fission product highly pertinent to nuclear waste.
Laser-heating and Radiance Spectrometry for the Study of Nuclear Materials in Conditions Simulating a Nuclear Power Plant Accident Dario Manara1, Luca Soldi1,2,4, Sara Mastromarino1,3,5, Kostantinos Boboridis1, Davide Robba1, Luka Vlahovic1, Rudy Konings1 1European Commission, Joint Research Centre, 2Energy Department, Politecnico di Milano, 3Department of Chemical Physics, Sapienza - Università di Roma, 4CEA Saclay, 5TU Delft We present experiments in which real nuclear fuel, cladding, and containment materials are laser heated to temperatures beyond 3,000 K while their behavior is studied by radiance spectroscopy and thermal analysis. These experiments simulate, on a laboratory scale, the formation of a lava-phase following a nuclear reactor core meltdown.
Hydroquinone Based Synthesis of Gold Nanorods Silvia Picciolini1, Dora Mehn2, Isaac Ojea-Jiménez2, Furio Gramatica1, Carlo Morasso1 1Labion - Laboratory of Nanomedicine and Clinical Biophotonics, Fondazione Don Carlo Gnocchi ONLUS (Don Carlo Gnocchi Foundation), 2Institute for Health and Consumer Protection (IHCP), European Commission Joint Research Centre This paper describes a protocol for the synthesis of gold nanorods, based on the use of hydroquinone as reducing agent, plus the different mechanisms for controlling their size and aspect ratio.
