Global health metrics implicate neurological disorders as the leading cause of disability and the second leading cause of death. Neurodegenerative disorders comprise a major part of those. Increase in life expectancy and population growth with increasing exposure to environmental risk factors pose a massive burden of neurodegenerative disorders in the coming years. Methodological advancements have aided in understanding the multimodal nature of these disorders, prion-like spreading of pathology, and even the involvement of peripheral systems in pathogenesis. In the scientific literature, these methods have been largely shadowed by compelling evidence research articles provide in enhancing our understanding of the disease mechanisms. Through this collection, we intend to bring these experiments to the forefront, and ease their access to the larger scientific community in a highly perceptible audiovisual format. We believe this would ultimately contribute to hastening the process of finding cures and preventions for a spectrum of neurodegenerative disorders.
There is a significant overlap in the methodologies that are employed to study the brain from various contexts. Neurodegenerative disorders have also broadened horizons with few of them showing overlapping motor, cognitive, and psychiatric impairments. Thus, this collection represents all the methods that could enhance our knowledge on neurodegeneration targeting various aspects of genetics, cytomolecular and biochemical pathways, circuits, and behavior. There is also scope for clinical studies involving surgical interventions and medical imaging, along with other diagnostic/prognostic methodologies. Innovations in the field of biomedical engineering, computation, and instrumentation aimed at providing relief to the patients are also encouraged.
