Dr. Tyler Barzee is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering at the University of Kentucky (UK). He obtained his BS in Biosystems Engineering from Clemson University and MS and PhD degrees in Biological Systems Engineering from the University of California Davis. Before joining UK in July 2021, he worked as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California Davis. His research focuses on bioprocess engineering and fermentation applications to produce sustainable food ingredients, fertilizers, fuels, and other bioproducts. Current research projects focus on producing alternative protein and other food products from cultivated cells, harvesting microalgae using filamentous fungi, anaerobic digestion to produce renewable natural gas from agricultural byproducts, and assessing various sustainability practices in fermentations.
