Graduated in Pharmacy (1993) and obtained a Master in Pathology (1995) from the Federal University of Ceará-Brazil, PhD in Genetics of Microorganisms (2002) from University College London-UK. She is currently a professor of Medical Microbiology at the Federal University of Ceará and also coordinates the Postgraduate Program in Pathology. She coordinates a laboratory in microbiology research, where post-graduate students (MsC and PhD) are trained and do their research. Her main experience is in molecular biology of bacteria, focusing in molecular epidemiology, drug resistance and diagnosis. Her group has been performing research in molecular epidemiology and diagnosis of viruses, including arbovirus, Human Papilloma Virus and Hepatitis C and B Virus. As a researcher leader, with a team of collaborators, she conducts studies emphasizing epidemiology, detection and genotyping of several etiological agents, including mycobacterias, Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) and Burkholderia pseudomallei.
