Methods to Test Endocrine Disruption in Drosophila melanogaster

Tiziana Francesca Bovier1, Daniela Cavaliere1, Michele Colombo1, Gianfranco Peluso2, Ennio Giordano3, Filomena Anna Digilio1,2

Endocrine disruptor chemicals (EDCs) represent a serious problem for organisms and for natural environments. Drosophila melanogaster represents an ideal model to study EDC effects in vivo. Here, we present methods to investigate endocrine disruption in Drosophila, addressing EDC effects on fecundity, fertility, developmental timing, and lifespan of the fly.

Automated Rat Single-Pellet Reaching with 3-Dimensional Reconstruction of Paw and Digit Trajectories

Alexandra Bova1, Krista Kernodle1, Kaitlyn Mulligan2, Daniel Leventhal2,3,4

Rodent skilled reaching is commonly used to study dexterous skills, but requires significant time and effort to implement the task and analyze the behavior. We describe an automated version of skilled reaching with motion tracking and three-dimensional reconstruction of reach trajectories.

Low-Cost Gait Analysis for Behavioral Phenotyping of Mouse Models of Neuromuscular Disease

Virginia Wertman1,2, Anastasia Gromova1,2,3, Albert R. La Spada1,2,4,5, Constanza J. Cortes1,2

Footprint analysis is a low-cost alternative to digitized gait analysis programs for researchers quantifying movement abnormalities in mice. Because of its speed, simplicity, and longitudinal potential, it is ideal for behavioral phenotyping of mouse models.

4D Printed Bifurcated Stents with Kirigami-Inspired Structures

Dahong Kim1, Taeyoung Kim1, Yong-Gu Lee1

Using a 3D printer, a shape memory polymer filament is extruded to form a branched tubular structure. The structure is patterned and shaped such that it can contract into a compact form once folded and then return to its formed shape when heated.
