[Diagnosis and prognosis of fetal ebstein anomaly].

Fetal echocardiography is possible to confirm with great certainty the diagnosis, in utero, Ebstein's anomaly, as well as determine its perinatal prognosis.

Late ureteral obstruction after injection of dextranomer/hyaluronic acid copolymer.
Urology

Show Abstract
Hide Abstract
Various biological and artificial materials have been introduced for endoscopic treatment of vesicoureteral reflux. Over the past years, dextranomer combined with hyaluronic acid (Dx/Ha) has been established as the most commonly used tissue-augmenting substance for subureteral injection because of its biocompatibility. Nevertheless, the histopathologic analysis of failed Dx/Ha injections showed changes in consistency and volume of the deposit and granulomatous reactions of the adjacent tissue. We report a case of late-onset obstruction 2 years after the injection of Dx/Ha. In the current literature, this potential long-term complication is hardly mentioned.

PcExl1 a novel acid expansin-like protein from the plant pathogen Pectobacterium carotovorum, binds cell walls differently to BsEXLX1.

Hide Abstract
Microbial expansins act on plant cell walls similarly to plant expansins, albeit their loosening activity levels are tenfold lesser compared to plant expansins. We report the characterization of an expansin-like gene from the plant pathogen Pectobacterium carotovorum, named exl1. PcExl1 is an acidic protein that binds cellulose (Avicel), and weakens filter paper. The acidic nature of PcExl1 confers different binding properties when compared to Bacillus subtilis BsEXLX1, which is a basic protein. PcExl1 binding to wheat cell wall increased when acidic components were depleted, reaching a similar level to the binding to Avicel, indicating that cellulose is the target of PcExl1.

Anatomical closure technique of the nasal floor for patients with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate.

Hide Abstract
We describe a new technique for the reconstruction of the nasal floor at the same time as cheiloplasty in patients with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate. We operated on patients aged between 3 and 36 months in public secondary and tertiary level institutions. None of these patients had had a previous operation for the correction of the cleft lip or palate. The operation required the design of two mucous flaps, one lateral and one medial to the defect, to reposition the tissues anatomically and repair the congenital deficiency. Three hundred and fifty-eight patients have been treated using this technique, most of whom (n = 233, 65%) were boys, and 288 (80%) presented with a right complete unilateral cleft. Postoperative evaluation showed that 22 patients (6%) had asymmetry of the nasal base equal to or less than 1 mm, 18 (5%) had nasovestibular fistulas, and 5 (1%) required revision. We conclude that this technique greatly reduces the number of asymmetrical nasal floors and the incidence of nasovestibular fistulas.

[Nested variant of urothelial carcinoma. A rare histological variant].

Hide Abstract
The nested variant of urothelial carcinoma is a rare histological tumor of urinary bladder. The clinical symptoms are similar to those of the classic urothelial carcinomas. Its macroscopic appearance can be very subtle due to its preference for a submucosal growth leading to a possible delay in diagnosis. Microscopically, it is characterized by nests and tubules formation. While the neoplastic cells exhibit low-grade histological features, the growth pattern is widely infiltrative conferring this neoplasia a bad prognosis even if a radical treatment is performed. We present a case of a patient affected by a nested variant of urothelial carcinoma of urinary bladder to whom a radical cystoprostatectomy was performed and adjuvant chemotherapy was given. He is alive and free of disease one year after the diagnosis.

What is Visualize?

JoVE Visualize is a tool created to match the last 5 years of PubMed publications to methods in JoVE's video library.

How does it work?

We use abstracts found on PubMed and match them to JoVE videos to create a list of 10 to 30 related methods videos.

Video X seems to be unrelated to Abstract Y...

In developing our video relationships, we compare around 5 million PubMed articles to our library of over 4,500 methods videos. In some cases the language used in the PubMed abstracts makes matching that content to a JoVE video difficult. In other cases, there happens not to be any content in our video library that is relevant to the topic of a given abstract. In these cases, our algorithms are trying their best to display videos with relevant content, which can sometimes result in matched videos with only a slight relation.
