Studies on the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signaling pathways and the therapeutic effects of EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) have recently proven that targeted therapy has a major role in the treatment of lung cancer. However, the therapeutic effects of EGFR-TKIs on lung cancers with different EGFR mutation subtypes remain unclear. And if there is a significant difference in the effects of EGFR-TKIs, the mechanisms for the difference remain unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical importance of EGFR mutations in exons 19 and 21 of lung cancer patients and to compare the outcomes of these patients.

Primary pulmonary lymphoma (PPL) is an extranodally original disorder, which is involving the lung parenchyma and (or) bronchial with clonal lymph cell abnormal proliferation. PPL is very rare in clinics, accounting for only 0.5%-1% of primary lung tumors, and can easily be misdiagnosed or missed due to the nonspecifically clinical features and imaging findings. Although the treatment of this disease has controversial, surgery and postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy are used for most patients in present. This review will report a rare case of primary pulmonary lymphoma, and discuss its diagnosis and treatment.

White-line-inducing principle (WLIP), a lipodepsipeptide isolated from Lasiosphaera fenzlii Reich., which is one of the puffballs, for the first time, has been reported to exhibit anti-microbial activity. However, there are no reports regarding the anti-tumor effects of WLIP. In this study, we reported the anti-cancer effects of WLIP on K562 cells, and its potential effect on the PPAR-? activation pathway. The obtained results showed that WLIP exerted strong anti-proliferative effect on K562 cells. Moreover, WLIP was found to increase apoptosis and induce G0/Gl arrest. Modeling results from the Surflex-Dock program suggested that PPAR-? might be the potential anti-tumor target of WLIP, which was confirmed by the experiments that WLIP increased the activity in luciferase reporter assay and the expression of PPAR-? in Western blot. Besides, WLIP was able to down-regulate the expression of Bcl-xL, Cyclin-D1 in K562 cells. In summary, our novel observations suggested that WLIP might have a potential implication in cancer prevention and treatment, and also showed for the first time that the anti-tumor effect of WLIP might be mediated through modulation of the PPAR-? activation pathway.

The purpose of this paper is to numerically investigate dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) transmission between a chaotic optical secure channel and a conventional fiber-optic channel. A 2.5 Gbits/s secure message masked by the chaotic optical secure channel and a 10 Gbits/s message sequence carried by the conventional fiber-optic channel can be realized simultaneously when the channel spacing is 0.8 nm. The results show that the Q-factors of the recovered messages can be increased significantly when the launched optical power is reduced appropriately. The deterioration of the quality of communication caused by fiber dispersion can be compensated noticeably on the condition that the symmetrical dispersion compensation scheme is adopted. In addition, the secure message is masked by chaos shift keying in the chaotic optical secure channel. The multiplexing distance between the chaotic optical secure channel and the conventional fiber-optic channel is up to 500 km.

Design and evaluation of self-emulsifying drug delivery systems of Rhizoma corydalis decumbentis extracts.

To improve the dissolution and oral absorption of Rhizoma corydalis decumbentis extracts (RCDE), a famous traditional Chinese herbal medicine which contains poorly water-soluble active components, self-emulsifying drug-delivery systems (SEDDS) were designed and evaluated in vitro and in vivo for the first time. Six formulations were prepared, and pseudoternary phase diagrams were constructed to identify the efficient self-emulsication region through the modified visual test. The optimized formulation consisted of 45% Solutol, 40% ethyl oleate, and 15% Transcutol P. The mean droplet size distribution of the optimized SEDDS was less than 100?nm. The release of the active components (protopine and tetrahydropalmatine) in RCDE from SEDDS hard gelatin capsules showed a faster rate in comparison with the commercial tablets. After oral administration of RCDE SEDDS capsules or the commercial tablets to fasted rats, the relative bioavailability of SEDDS capsules for protopine and tetrahydropalmatine was 209.7% and 133.2% compared with commercial tablets, respectively. Our study indicated that SEDDS has the potential to improve the bioavailability of traditional Chinese medicines, in which many active components are hydrophobic, such as RCDE.

In these cases, our algorithms are trying their best to display videos with relevant content, which can sometimes result in matched videos with only a slight relation.
