The complete mitochondrial genome of Caenorhabditis tropicalis n. sp. (Rhabditida: Rhabditidae).

Abstract In order to further study the characteristic of Caenorhabditis, the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of a modal nematode species Caenorhabditis tropicalis n. sp. (previous species name: C. sp. 11) was determined. The results showed that the mitogenome was 13,874?bp in length, which contained 12 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), an AT-rich region and 2 non-coding regions (NCR). The base composition of the heavy strand was 28.12% A, 47.57% T, 15.53% G, and 8.78% C. Furthermore, it is more significant that this mitogenome has two unique features: One is the AT-rich region which had 4 runs of 12 AT dinucleotides and 4 copies of directly repeated sequence (47?bp) within a pair of inverted repeat sequence (13?bp), and the other is that the NCR (130?bp) between tRNA(Arg) and tRNA(Gln) of 4 small stem-loop which was described at the first time. This paper firstly expounded the the complete mitogenome of C. tropicalis n. sp. So it can enrich the molecular resource and facilitate the further research of the population genetics and systematics for Caenorhabditis.

Purpose: Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) characterized as the decline of memory and executive function after major surgery is not well illustrated. The aim of this study is to discover whether inflammatory cytokines and urinary trypsin inhibitor (uTi) contribute to the development of POCD. Method: Sixty-three patients undergoing lumber discectomy and 47 age-matched control volunteers were involved in this study. The level of C-reaction protein (CRP) and uTi/urine creatinine (Ucr) was measured by immunoturbidimetry and enzyme-inhibition assay, respectively. Meanwhile, ELISA was involved to detect the level of IL-6, IL-10, MMP-9 in serum. Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) test was used to determine the cognitive decline of the patients and age-matched controls. Result: In POCD group, the level of IL-6, IL-10, CRP, MMP-9 in serum and uTi /Ucr in urine was significantly higher than that in the group without POCD. The POCD was more frequently observed in elderly group than in the middle-aged group (43.75% versus 19.35%, p = 0.038). After logistic regression analysis adjusted by the age, only serum CRP at 72 h postoperation and urinary uTi /Ucr at 24 h postoperation were the independent risk factors of POCD. Conclusion: Age-related increasing proinflammatory postoperation may result in higher occurrence of POCD in the elderly. Additionally, patients with extremely high concentrations of CRP in serum at 72 h postoperation and uTi /Ucr in urine at 24 h postoperation are more likely to experience POCD, especially in the elderly.

Objective: To determine the pattern of muscle edema occurring in the lower limb muscles of Asian hypokalaemic periodic paralysis (hypoPP) patients using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Specifically, the relationship between muscle edema and muscle activity during daily use was examined by comparing the lower limb muscle MRI of healthy subjects following exercise and hypoPP patients. Methods: Twenty Asian patients (mean age: 29·3±7·53 years) clinically diagnosed with hypoPP were enrolled in the present study. Ten healthy subjects were also enrolled. Direct automated DNA sequencing of the S4 regions of CACNA1S and SCN4A in all hypoPP patients was performed. The upper and lower legs of all hypoPP patients during the time interval between attacks and healthy subjects pre- and post-exercise were examined on a 3 T system with T2-weighted fat saturation sequence. Images were evaluated by means of a region of interest analysis. A scoring from 0 to 3 was used to compare the degree of muscle edema among individual muscles. Results: Three hypoPP patients were identified with mutations in the screened genes: R1239H and R900S of CACNA1S and R672H of SCN4A. The lower leg muscles of both hypoPP patients and healthy subjects after exercise displayed significantly higher MRI signal intensities compared to healthy subjects before exercise (P < 0·0001 and P < 0·0001, respectively). In contrast, there was no significant change in the upper leg muscle signal intensities of hypoPP patients and healthy subjects following exercise compared to pre-exercise healthy subjects (P ?=? 0·7598 and P ?=? 0·9651, respectively). In the hypoPP patient group, high signal intensity in the upper leg muscles was seen only in the patient with the R1239H mutation. In the lower legs, muscle edema was most frequently seen in the gastrocnemius lateralis, soleus, and gastrocnemius medialis in the hypoPP patient group. Furthermore, the degree of muscle edema was the greatest in these muscles. This similar pattern of muscle edema was also seen in healthy subjects after exercise. Conclusions: In Asian hypoPP patients, muscle edema as well as the underlying abnormal ion distributions across the muscle membrane is present even during the time interval between attacks of muscle weakness. The muscles of the lower leg are more likely to be edematous than muscles of the upper leg since these muscles are more actively used in daily life. Thus, muscles subjected to high activity are more likely to be edematous and sodium-overloaded.

The genus Ulocladium is thought to be strictly asexual. Mating-type (MAT) loci regulate sexual reproduction in fungi and their study may help to explain the apparent lack of sexual reproduction in Ulocladium. We sequenced the full length of two MAT genes in 26 Ulocladium species and characterized the entire MAT idiomorphs plus flanking regions of Ulocladium botrytis. The MAT1-1 ORF encodes a protein with an alpha-box motif by the MAT1-1-1 gene and the MAT1-2 ORF encodes a protein with an HMG box motif by the MAT1-2-1 gene. Both MAT1-1-1 and MAT1-2-1 genes were detected in a single strain of every species. Moreover, the results of RT-PCR revealed that both MAT genes are expressed in all 26 Ulocladium species. This demonstrates that MAT genes of Ulocladium species might be functional and that they have the potential for sexual reproduction. Phylogenies based on MAT genes were compared with GAPDH and Alt a 1 phylograms in Ulocladium using maximum parsimony (MP) and Bayesian analysis. The MAT genealogies and the non-MAT trees displayed different topologies, indicating that MAT genes are unsuitable phylogenetic markers at the species level in Ulocladium. Furthermore, the conflicting topologies between MAT1-1-1 and MAT1-2-1 phylogeny indicate separate evolutionary events for the two MAT genes. However, the intergeneric phylogeny of four closely allied genera (Ulocladium, Alternaria, Cochliobolus, Stemphylium) based on MAT alignments demonstrated that MAT genes are suitable for phylogenetic analysis among allied genera.

Bulliform cells are large, thin-walled and highly vacuolated cells, and play an important role in controlling leaf rolling in response to drought and high temperature. However, the molecular mechanisms regulating bulliform cell development have not been well documented. Here, we report isolation and characterisation of a rice leaf-rolling mutant, named shallot-like 2 (sll2). The sll2 plants exhibit adaxially rolled leaves, starting from the sixth leaf stage, accompanied by increased photosynthesis and reduced plant height and tiller number. Histological analyses showed shrinkage of bulliform cells, resulting in inward-curved leaves. The mutant is recessive and revertible at a rate of 9%. The leaf rolling is caused by a T-DNA insertion. Cloning of the insertion using TAIL-PCR revealed that the T-DNA was inserted in the promoter region of LOC_Os07g38664. Unexpectedly, the enhanced expression of LOC_Os07g38664 by the 35S enhancer in the T-DNA is not responsible for the leaf rolling phenotype. Further, the enhancer also exerted a long-distance effect, including up-regulation of several bulliform cell-related genes. sll2 suppressed the outward leaf rolling of oul1 in the sll2oul1 double mutant. We conclude that leaf rolling in sll2 could be a result of the combined effect of multi-genes, implying a complex network in regulation of bulliform cell development. The role of autophagy is known to be highly complex and context-dependent, and may be characterized as both tumor suppression and tumor promotion in some tumors, such as breast cancer and prostate cancer. This review outlines recent advances in the studies of the involvement of autophagy in the development, progression and treatment of prostate cancer, focusing on autophagy modulation during androgen deprivation, with a special discussion on the regulatory effect of androgens on the autophagy of prostate cancer cells. A critical evaluation and analysis of the studies suggests that autophagy inhibition combined with androgen deprivation therapy is a promising approach to the treatment of prostate cancer.

The synthesis and evaluation of a photoaffinity probe molecule for furospinosulin-1, a hypoxia-selective growth inhibitor that we identified from marine sponge, was studied. An analogue carrying an alkyne tail showed potent hypoxia-selective inhibitory activity exceeding that of the parent molecule, and exhibited in vivo anti-tumor activity following oral administration. The alkyne moiety in the analogue was also found to be a good anchoring group for the preparation of probe molecules; a photoaffinity probe molecule having an optimized spacer length was selected through the systematic synthesis of several probes and the evaluation of their hypoxia-selective growth inhibitory activity and electrophoretic mobility shift properties.

There have been few reports on the development of metabolic disorders, especially when they are considered as a cluster. The purpose of this study was to describe risk profiles for metabolic syndrome (MetS) in elderly dwellers in Beijing, and to find their transition patterns over time. Data were derived from Beijing longitudinal study of aging, a community-based cohort study hosted by Xuanwu hospital. There were 3,257 elderly people aged 55 years or over recruited in 1992. MetS was assessed for the years 1992, 2000, and 2009. Finally, 363 subjects with complete information for components of MetS in the three years were included in the study. The criteria of MetS recommended by the joint interim statement criteria were adopted. Latent transition analysis was used to calculate the transition probabilities between adjacent visits. A risk typology consisting of four time-invariant groups was detected based on the components of MetS for all subjects. Low MetS risk group, BP risk group, BP-HDL risk group, and BP-FPG-TG risk group were found. The probability of staying at the same status was higher at the two intervals across 18 years. Four latent groups were extracted based on three assessments for the components of MetS, together with their transition patterns. Findings suggested various trajectories for MetS components. Different combinations of intervention strategy might be needed for MetS risk groups.

Aminopeptidase N (APN) is important in tumour processes. The present study detected the anti?tumour activity of the novel APN inhibitor DH?12a, which is an indoline?2,3?dione derivative. In the present study, Bestatin, a clinical APN inhibitor was used as a positive control. The expression of APN in the ES-2 and 3AO cell lines were assessed using flow cytometry and the drug inhibition constants of DH?12a (Ki=13.15 µM) and Bestatin (Ki=16.57 µM) were assessed using a double reciprocal method of competitive inhibition. The in vitro effects of DH?12a on cell proliferation were assessed using a 3?(4,5?dimethyl?thiazol?2?yl)?2,5?diphenyl tetrazolium bromide assay on human cell lines of ES?2 (IC50=43.8 µM), A549 (inhibition rate=41.5% at 160 µM DH?12a), HL60 (inhibition rate=47.83% at 160 µM DH?12a) and 3AO (IC50=70.2 µM). The inhibition rates were consistently higher than those of Bestatin. The effects of DH?12a on cell migration (inhibition rates in ES?2 cells and 3AO cells were 56.4 and 76.5%, respectively at 15 µM) and invasion (inhibition rates in ES?2 cells and 3AO cells were 75.6 and 66.5%, respectively at 15 µM) were assessed using transwell plates. The in vivo effects of DH?12a on tumour proliferation and lung tumour metastasis were determined using an H22 xenograft mice model, where DH?12a was administered in combination with genotoxic 5?fluorouracil. The anti?tumour activities of DH?12a in vivo were also greater than those of Bestatin. In conclusion, the in vitro effects of DH?12a on tumour proliferation, migration and invasion were consistent with the in vivo effects. In addition, DH?12a exhibited greater anti?tumour properties compared with Bestatin.

Aerobic nitrifying granule sludge cultivated in sequential batch reactor (SBR) was used to investigate the critical activity point of granules and the effect of different ammonia concentration and aeration time on reactivation after storage. The results showed that there was big difference in the activity (SOUR, 02/VSS) of nitrifying bacteria after different storage time. The specific oxygen utilization rate (SOUR) of granules before storage was 13. 15 mg.(g h)-1. After a storage period of 20 days, the SOUR decreased by 1.26 mg.(g.h)-1 , after 5 cycles of reactivation, the ammonia removal efficiency was already increased to 95% while the SOUR was recovered to 13.87 mg.(g.h)-1. But after a storage period of 30 days, the SOUR decreased by 11.63 mg.(g.h)-1, after 51 cycles of reactivation, the ammonia removal efficiecny only eached 92. 64% while the SOUR was recovered to 14.92 mg.(g.h)-1. Meanwhile, this storage method required a longer recovery time. Therefore, we put forward that the critical activity of denitrifying granular sludge should be the activity when activity recovery starts and the nitrifying bacteria SOUR begins to decline. On the basis of the critical activity, we began to restore the activity when the activity of the denitrifying bacteria was reduced to critical activity, and then started a new storage cycle. This storage method was named dynamic storage. Different influent ammonia concentrations of 20, 30 and40 mg.L-1 were applied to reactivate the aerobic granules. Highest SOUR could be achieved when fed with an ammonia concentration of 40 mg.L-1 after reactivation. After three times of dynamic storage, the SOUR remained stable. Different aeration time of 1, 2 and 3 h was applied to reactivate the aerobic granules. Highest SOUR could be obtained when aeration time of 1 h was applied after reactivation and remained stable along with dynamic storage.

Lung cancer, one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths, usually appears as solitary pulmonary nodules (SPNs) which are hard to diagnose using the naked eye. In this paper, curvelet-based textural features and clinical parameters are used with three prediction models [a multilevel model, a least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression method, and a support vector machine (SVM)] to improve the diagnosis of benign and malignant SPNs. Dimensionality reduction of the original curvelet-based textural features was achieved using principal component analysis. In addition, non-conditional logistical regression was used to find clinical predictors among demographic parameters and morphological features. The results showed that, combined with 11 clinical predictors, the accuracy rates using 12 principal components were higher than those using the original curvelet-based textural features. To evaluate the models, 10-fold cross validation and back substitution were applied. The results obtained, respectively, were 0.8549 and 0.9221 for the LASSO method, 0.9443 and 0.9831 for SVM, and 0.8722 and 0.9722 for the multilevel model. All in all, it was found that using curvelet-based textural features after dimensionality reduction and using clinical predictors, the highest accuracy rate was achieved with SVM. The method may be used as an auxiliary tool to differentiate between benign and malignant SPNs in CT images.

A somatic embryogenesis protocol for plant regeneration of Schisandra chinensis (Turcz.) Baillon was established. Increased callus induction was obtained from mature zygotic embryos on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 1.0 mg L(-1) N-phenyl-1,2,3-thidiazol-5-yl-urea (TDZ) or 2.0 mg L(-1) 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). Addition of Zeatin (Zt) promoted the formation of embryogenic calli. To induce somatic embryogenesis, 2,4-D, TDZ and Zt were incorporated in the medium alone or in combination. Development of the maximum number of somatic embryos (81 globular, 37 heart, 52 torpedo and 37 cotyledon-stage) and germination of the highest number of embryos (50%) was observed on 1/2 MS medium supplemented with 1.0 mg L(-1) TDZ and 0.2 mg L(-1) Zt. Further development of somatic embryos into plantlets was completed in 1/2 MS medium free of plant growth regulators.

A Tetramethylpyrazine Piperazine Derivate CXC137 Prevents Cell Injury in SH-SY5Y Cells and Improves Memory Dysfunction of Rats with Vascular Dementia.

We investigated the effects of CXC137, a tetramethylpyrazine piperazine derivate, on cell damage induced by N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) in human derived neuroblastoma cells (SH-SY5Y) and its effect on memory dysfunction of rats with vascular dementia. It was found that the presence of CXC137 increased SH-SY5Y cells viability by inhibition of cell apoptosis induced by NMDA. These effects of CXC137 were accompanied by increases of the antioxidant superoxide dismutase activity and the level of reduced glutathione, and a decrease of lipid peroxidation product, malondialdehyde. The presence of CXC137 also showed to produce strong inhibition of cellular lactate dehydrogenase leakage, cell apoptosis and intracellular calcium overload. In a vascular dementia rat model established by bilateral common carotid arteries occlusion, treatment with CXC137 from 2 to 35 day of post-operation significantly improves the motor performance, spatial learning and memory capability of rats in both the prehensile traction test and Morris water maze test, an effect that was companied by reductions of the animal glutamic acid levels and the degree of brain mitochondrial swelling. These results suggest that CXC137 can improve the memory dysfunction in dementia and thus has important therapeutic potential for the treatment of dementia.

To study insertion efficiency of goldfish Tgf2 transposon in the genome of Megalobrama amblycephala, we built Tgf2-Mlyz2-RFP donor plasmid with goldfish Tgf2 transposon left and right arms, and then co-injected with goldfish Tgf2 transposase mRNA into the 1-2 cell stage fertilized eggs of M. amblycephala. In 30 d- and 180 d-stage larval, RFP fluorescence can be observed in back and side muscle of the fish. The rate of RFP fluorescence expression was 48.1%. In adult fish, PCR results demonstrated that integration efficiency of goldfish Tgf2 transposition system was 31.5% in M. am-blycephala genome. RT-PCR analysis showed that RFP RNAs were highly transcribed among all the 12 tissues in three transgenic fishes, while it could be highly detected only in muscle, skin, and kidney in another two individuals. Our results suggested that RFP expression in tissues vaied among different M. amblycephala. By means of the inverse PCR, the copy numbers of Tgf2 transposon were at least 2 in transgenic M. amblycephala. The average copy number of each fish was about 5. Over 50% of flanking sequences at the insertion site have homologous sequence in other vertebrate species. Our data suggest that goldfish Tgf2 transposon can efficiently mediate gene insertion in M. amblycephala, which could been used in transgene and gene trap in M. amblycephala.

Association of hematological parameters with metabolic syndrome in Beijing adult population: a longitudinal study.

The purposes of the study were to estimate the incidence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and to systematically evaluate the relationship between hematological parameters and MetS in a 5-year follow-up of Beijing adult population. The longitudinal study included 3,180 adults, aged 20-65 years, who attended health check-ups in Beijing Tongren Hospital in 2007 and 2012. Multivariate logistic regression was conducted to explore the associations between hematological parameters and MetS. The 5-year cumulative incidence of MetS in this sample was 10.82 % (14.22 % for males and 7.59 % for females). Among all the hematological parameters, white blood cell count (WBC) was positively associated with MetS for 20-35-year-old (male OR 1.482, 95 % CI 1.169-2.974; female OR 1.398, 95 % CI 1.145-3.011), and 36-50-year-old (male OR 2.012, 95 % CI 1.290-4.010; female OR 3.400, 95 % CI 1.818-4.528) male and female subjects. Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) was significantly associated with the incidence of MetS for males (20-35-year-old OR 2.080, 95 % CI 1.371-3.159; 36-50-year-old OR 2.421, 95 % CI 1.335-3.412; 51-65-year-old OR 4.267, 95 % CI 1.161-6.781). Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) was positively associated with MetS for 51-65-year-old (male OR 3.078, 95 % CI 2.468-5.131; female OR 2.140, 95 % CI 1.524-4.359) for male and female subjects. WBC is positively associated with MetS for young adults, while LDL-C is positively associated with MetS for elderly people. ALT is positively associated with MetS for males. Our findings provide further evidence in support of using hematological markers for early detection of individuals at risk for MetS.

The plastidic caseinolytic protease (Clp) of higher plants is an evolutionarily conserved protein degradation apparatus composed of a proteolytic core complex (the P and R rings) and a set of accessory proteins (ClpT, ClpC, and ClpS). The role and molecular composition of Clps in higher plants has just begun to be unraveled, mostly from studies with the model dicotyledonous plant Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana). In this work, we isolated a virescent yellow leaf (vyl) mutant in rice (Oryza sativa), which produces chlorotic leaves throughout the entire growth period. The young chlorotic leaves turn green in later developmental stages, accompanied by alterations in chlorophyll accumulation, chloroplast ultrastructure, and the expression of chloroplast development- and photosynthesis-related genes. Positional cloning revealed that the VYL gene encodes a protein homologous to the Arabidopsis ClpP6 subunit and that it is targeted to the chloroplast. VYL expression is constitutive in most tissues examined but most abundant in leaf sections containing chloroplasts in early stages of development. The mutation in vyl causes premature termination of the predicted gene product and loss of the conserved catalytic triad (serine-histidine-aspartate) and the polypeptide-binding site of VYL. Using a tandem affinity purification approach and mass spectrometry analysis, we identified OsClpP4 as a VYL-associated protein in vivo. In addition, yeast two-hybrid assays demonstrated that VYL directly interacts with OsClpP3 and OsClpP4. Furthermore, we found that OsClpP3 directly interacts with OsClpT, that OsClpP4 directly interacts with OsClpP5 and OsClpT, and that both OsClpP4 and OsClpT can homodimerize. Together, our data provide new insights into the function, assembly, and regulation of Clps in higher plants.

In order to observe the clinical therapeutic effects of Yiqi Kaimi Prescription and biofeedback therapy on treating constipation with deficiency of spleen qi, the 30 cases in the control group were given oral administration of Yiqi Kaimi Prescription, in combination with anus-lifting exercise; the 30 cases in the treatment group were given biofeedback therapy on the basis of the afore mentioned methods for the control group. The TCM symptom scores and anorectal pressures before and after treatment were observed and evaluated. There were significant differences in TCM symptom scores, anorectal pressure, and clinical recovery rate before and after treatment. In the treatment group, the total recovery rate was 86.66%, while in the control group it was 50%; there were significant differences between the two groups (P < 0.01). Yiqi Kaimi Prescription coupled with biofeedback therapy is clinically effective for treating constipation with deficiency of spleen qi, and thus this method is applicable for functional constipation with deficiency of spleen qi.

Based on the analysis of the effects of biological soil crust (biocrust) in re-vegetated grasslands on soil physical and chemical properties, and by using EPIC estimation model in combining with simulated rainfall trials, this paper studied the effects of biocrust with different biomass and different soil texture on the soil erodibility (K value) in Hilly Loess Plateau Region of Northwest China in different seasons. The results showed biocrust could significantly decrease soil erodibility, with the K value of biocrust soil decreased by about 17%, compared with subsoil. The soil erodibility decreased with the increasing biomass of biocrust. The K value of moss crust soil decreased by 21%, compared with cyanobacteria crust soil. The erodibiliy of biocrust soil differed with different seasons, being significantly higher in rainy season than before or after the rainy season due to the differences in the biological activity of the biocrust organisms. The erodibilty of biocrust soil with different texture also varied significantly, with the K value in the order of sandy loam soil > silt soil > sandy soil. The measurement under simulated rainfall showed that the development of biocrust could decrease the erodibility of biocrust soil by about 90%, compared with that of the subsoil (5-10 cm).

PTEN (phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome 10) is a tumor suppressor and has been suggested recently to be involved in the regulation of cardiovascular diseases. The molecular mechanisms of this regulation are however poorly understood. This study shows that down regulation of PTEN expression and activity by angiotensin II (Ang II) increased proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). The presence of Ang II induced rapid PTEN phosphorylation and oxidation in accordance with increased AKT and FAK phosphorylation. The Ang II-mediated VSMC proliferation and migration was inhibited when cellular PTEN expression was increased by AT1 inhibitor losartan, PPAR? agonist rosiglitazone, NF-?B inhibitor BAY 11-7082. Over expression of PTEN in VSMCs by adenovirus transduction also resulted in inhibition of cell proliferation and migration in response to Ang II. These results suggest that PTEN down-regulation is involved in proliferation and migration of VSMCs induced by Ang II. This provides insight into the molecular regulation of PTEN in vascular smooth muscle cells and suggests that targeting the action of PTEN may represent an effective therapeutic approach for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

BACKGROUND: Serum gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) and uric acid (UA) levels are elevated in patients with diabetes or cardiovascular disease. Prediabetes, characterized by impaired glucose tolerance, is an important risk factor for overt diabetes as well as cardiovascular disease. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the relationship between GGT, UA and prediabetes in a Chinese population, and provide a scientific basis for the early prevention and treatment of diabetes. METHODS: We performed a cross-sectional population-based study in a cohort of 2694 subjects (1211 men and 1483 women, aged 35--86 years). Questionnaires and physical examinations were performed using standardized procedures. Fasting blood was collected to measure glucose and other biochemical parameters. The subjects were divided into two groups with either normal fasting glucose (NFG) or impaired fasting glucose (IFG), according to international diagnostic criteria. Logistic regression analysis was performed to estimate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals. RESULTS: Compared with the NFG group, the IFG group had significantly higher blood pressure but lower high-density lipoprotein--cholesterol in women. Body mass index, waist circumference, triglyceride, glucose, GGT, and UA levels were significantly higher in males and females in the IFG group than those in the NFG group. Logistic regression analysis revealed that the OR for prediabetes increased with increasing serum GGT quartiles and UA quartiles. GGT and UA were positively associated with prediabetes in men and women, independent of age, ethnicity, smoking, alcohol consumption, blood pressure, physical labor, and other confounders. CONCLUSIONS: We found that serum GGT and UA levels were positively associated with prediabetes in men and women living in areas inhabited by Chinese ethnic minorities. As elevated GGT and UA levels were associated with significantly increased risk of prediabetes, they may be used as sensitive biological markers of prediabetes.

The formation of vertebrate skeletal muscles widely thought to be under the control of hierarchy of regulatory genes. MYF5 is one of the myogenic determination gene expressed in the developing mouse dermomyotome which control skeletal muscle differentiation. In the current work, we had obtained the cDNA sequence including the full coding region of the bos taurus myogenic factor MYF5 by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Furthermore, we examined whether fibroblast cell derived from mouse and bos taurus can be transduced using plasmid vectors carrying bos taurus MYF5. Bos taurus MYF5 activates MYF5 and MYOD1 expression after 1 day culture. The concerted upregulation of the myogenic regulatory factors enhanced myosin (skeletal fast) expression. These observation show that MYF5 is essential for myogenic differentiation and provides candidates for regulation bos taurus skeletal muscle development.

To analyze and assess the nitrate contents in Autumn vegetables and nitrate intake in Shanghai resident 25 groups and 439 various vegetables were collected and analyzed from the green houses and outdoors in Songjiang, Fengxian, Jinshan and Pudong of Shanghai during Sep.-Nov., 2009. Nitrate contents were analyzed by UV-spectrophotometer. The results showed that the prevalence of severe contamination was 41.46%, the prevalence of heavy and medium contamination was 30.53%, the prevalence of mild contamination was 28.02%; the content of nitrate in vegetables was in the following descent order: leafy vegetables, root and stem vegetables, melons, egg plants, beans, the nitrate contents in different species differed greatly; the nitrate contents in leafy, root and stem vegetables with green-house planting were less than that of outdoor planting in Fengxian and Songjiang except Pudong and Jinshan. According to the assessment of nitrate intake, the average daily intake of local resident is 445.22 mg which exceeds ADI 38.42%, so limited standard and control are urgently needed.

In rice, one detrimental factor influencing single panicle yield is the frequent occurrence of panicle apical abortion (PAA) under unfavorable climatic conditions. Until now, no detailed genetic information has been available to avoid PAA in rice breeding. Here, we show that the occurrence of PAA is associated with the accumulation of excess hydrogen peroxide. Quantitative trait loci (QTLs) mapping for PAA in an F(2) population derived from the cross of L-05261 (PAA line) × IRAT129 (non-PAA variety) identified seven QTLs over a logarithm of the odd (LOD) threshold of 2.5, explaining approximately 50.1% of phenotypic variance for PAA in total. Five of the QTLs with an increased effect from L-05261, were designated as qPAA3-1, qPAA3-2, qPAA4, qPAA5 and qPAA8, and accounted for 6.8%, 5.9%, 4.2%, 13.0% and 12.2% of phenotypic variance, respectively. We found that the PAA in the early heading plants was mainly controlled by qPAA8. Subsequently, using the sub-populations specific for qPAA8 based on marker-assisted selection, we further narrowed qPAA8 to a 37.6-kb interval delimited by markers RM22475 and 8-In112. These results are beneficial for PAA gene clone.

Based on the 1980s soil inventory data and the 2002-2007 soil pH data of Guangdong Province, the spatiotemporal variation of soil pH in the Province in past 30 years was studied. In the study period, the spatial distribution pattern of soil pH in the Province had less change (mainly acidic), except that in Pearl River Delta and parts of Qingyuan and Shaoguan (weak alkaline). The overall variation of soil pH was represented as acidification, with the average pH value changed from 5.70 to 5.44. Among the soil types in the Province, alluvial soil had an increased pH, lateritic red soil, paddy soil, and red soil had a large decrement of pH value, and lime soil was most obvious in the decrease of pH value and its area percentage. The soil acidification was mainly induced by soil characteristics, some natural factors such as acid rain, and human factors such as unreasonable fertilization and urbanization. In addition, industrialization and mining increased the soil pH in some areas.

A novel stilbene derivative, (E)-2-(2-chlorostyryl)-3,5,6-trimethylpyrazine (CSTMP), was designed and synthesized based on the pharmacophores of tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) and resveratrol (RES). In the present study, we investigated the protective effects of CSTMP on vascular endothelial cells under oxidative stress and elucidated its molecular mechanisms. The radical scavenging activity of CSTMP was assessed by the DPPH test. Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells (HUVECs) were exposed to 150 ?M hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)) for 12 h, resulting in a decrease of cell viability assessed by the MTT assay and an increase of apoptotic cells assessed by the nuclear staining assay and flow cytometry. The activities of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and the contents of malondialdehyde (MDA), reduced glutathione (GSH) and nitric oxide (NO) in cells were determined by commercial kits. The expression levels of pro-apoptotic factor caspase-3 and anti-apoptotic signal ERK1/2 were detected by western blot. The results showed that CSTMP had a moderate anti-oxidative effect against the DPPH test, which was less than RES. Co-incubation with CSTMP increased the cell viability, markedly reduced the LDH leakage from the cells and decreased the lipid peroxidation. These effects of CSTMP were accompanied by increasing activity of the endogenous antioxidant enzyme SOD, the level of GSH, the production of NO and cNOS activity. Moreover, CSTMP showed stronger effects on the inhibition of apoptosis, caspase-3 expression, and the activation of phosphorylated ERK1/2 compared to RES. Furthermore, CSTMP could inhibit the expression of phospho-JNK and phospho-p38 induced by H(2)O(2). These results suggest that CSTMP prevents H(2)O(2)-induced cell injury through anti-oxidation and anti-apoptosis via the MAPK and caspase-3 pathways.

In the crystal, the tetra-phenol mol-ecule is arranged around an inversion center. The mol-ecule and the dimethyl-formamide solvate are linked through an O-H?O hydrogen bond. An intra-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bond occurs in the tetra-phenol mol-ecule, which may influence the mol-ecular confomation. Futhermore, C-H?O and ?-? stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.7081?(14)?Å] stabilize the crystal packing, building a three-dimensional network.

In this work, a highly selective sample cleanup procedure that combining molecular imprinting technique (MIT) and solid phase extraction (SPE) was developed for the isolation of domoic acid (a fascinating marine toxin) from seafood samples. The molecular imprinting polymer (MIP) for domoic acid was prepared using 1,3,5-pentanetricarboxylic acid as the template molecule instead of domoic acid. 4-Vinyl pyridine was used as the functional monomer and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate was used as the cross-linking monomer. The obtained imprinted polymer showed high affinity to domoic acid and was used as selective sorbent for the SPE of domoic acid from seafood samples. An off-line molecularly imprinted solid phase extraction (MISPE) method followed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with diode-array detection for the detection of domoic acid was also established. Good linearity was obtained from 0.5 mg L(-1) to 25 mg L(-1) (R(2)>0.99) with a quantitation limit of 0.1 mg L(-1), which was sufficient to determine domoic acid at the maximum level permitted by several authorities. The mean recoveries of domoic acid from mussel extracts were 93.4-96.7%. It was demonstrated that the proposed MISPE-HPLC method could be applied to direct determination of domoic acid from seafood samples.

Multidrug resistance (MDR) of tumor cells is a major obstacle in chemotherapeutic cancer treatment. Over-expression of glutathione S-transferase ? (GST?) is one of the mechanisms contributing to MDR. In this study, we investigated the reversal of MDR by DLJ14, a ligustrazine derivate, in adriamycin (Adr) resistant human myelogenous leukemia (K562/A02) cells by modulating the expression of GST? and the activity of GST-related enzymes. In the MTT test, DLJ14 showed a weak inhibition on proliferation of both K562/A02 and K562 cells, while verapamil at the same concentration showed a much stronger inhibition. The sensitivity of K562/A02 cells to cytotoxic killing by Adr was enhanced by incubation with DLJ14 as a result of the increased intracellular accumulation of Adr. The accumulation of Adr induced by DLJ14 may due to down regulation of GST-related enzyme activity. Western blot analysis and RT-PCR showed that DLJ14 was able to inhibit the protein expression and mRNA expression of GST? in K562/A02 cells. Moreover, DLJ14 increased the expression of cellular c-Jun NH(2)-terminal kinase (JNK) in K562/A02 cells exposure to Adr. This is consistent with the inhibition of GST?. These results demonstrate that DLJ14 may be an attractive new agent for the chemosensitization of cancer cells.

A novel ligustrazine derivative, tetramethylpyrazine diphenylmethyl piperazidine (TMPDP), prepared by hybridization and bioisosteric replacement of the molecular structure of TMP, was studied for its protective effects on oxidative damage of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) in response to hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The antioxidative effect of TMPDP was assessed by the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH) test. Cell viability was measured using a 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay. The activity of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH) and the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in cells were determined by commercial kits. The intracellular formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the concentration of free intracellular calcium ([Ca2+]i) were determined using DCFH-DA assay and with fura-2/AM fluorimetry, respectively. Results showed that TMPDP had a moderate antioxidative effect against DPPH. Cell viability was decreased markedly by exposure to H2O2. Introduction of TMPDP, however, significantly increased cell viability, markedly reduced LDH release from cells and decreased lipid peroxidation in response to H2O2 treatment. These effects of TMPDP were accompanied by increased activity of the endogenous antioxidant enzymes, SOD and GSH, reduced production of ROS and reduced intracellular concentration of Ca2+. These results suggest that TMPDP protects HUVECs against oxidative damage by scavenging ROS and regulates intracellular calcium concentration. This might have important implications for the development of new agents for the effective treatment of vascular disease.

Most relatives of the self-fertilizing hermaphroditic nematode model organism Caenorhabditis elegans reproduce via obligate outbreeding between males and females, which also represents the ancestral mode of reproduction within the genus. However, little is known about the scope of genetic diversity and differentiation within such gonochoristic species, especially those found outside of temperate Europe and North America. It is critical to understand the evolutionary processes operating in these species to provide a framework for deciphering the evolution of hermaphroditism and a baseline for the application of outcrossing Caenorhabditis to problems in evolutionary genetics. Here, we investigate for the first time molecular sequence variation for Caenorhabditis sp. 5, a species found commonly in eastern Asia. We identify enormous levels of standing genetic variation that approach the levels observed in the marine broadcast-spawning sea squirt, Ciona savignyi. Although we document significant isolation by distance, we demonstrate that the high polymorphism within C. sp. 5 is not because of strong differentiation among populations or to the presence of cryptic species. These findings illustrate that molecular population genetic approaches to studying obligately outbreeding species of Caenorhabditis will prove powerful in identifying and characterizing functionally and evolutionarily important features of the genome.

Taking the tissue-cultured seedlings of grape cultivar Red Globe as test objects, this paper examined the effects of their root aqueous extracts on seedlings growth, with the allelochemicals identified by LC-MS. The results showed that 0.02 g x ml(-1) (air-dried root mass in aqueous extracts volume; the same below), 0.1 g x ml(-1), and 0.2 g x ml(-1) of the aqueous extracts inhibited the growth of the seedlings significantly, and the inhibition effect increased with increasing concentration of the extracts. The identified allelochemicals of the extracts included p-hydroxybenzoic acid, salicylic acid, phenylpropionic acid, and coumaric acid. Pot experiment showed that different concentration (0.1, 1, and 10 mmol x L(-1)) salicylic acid and phenylpropionic acid inhibited the seedling s growth remarkably. With the increasing concentration of the two acids, the plant height, stem diameter, shoot- and root fresh mass, leaf net photosynthetic rate and starch content, and root activity of the seedlings decreased, while the leaf soluble sugar and MDA contents increased. No obvious change pattern was observed in leaf protein content.

Lomaantha phragmitis sp. nov. is described and illustrated from a specimen collected on dead culms of Phragmites communis in southern China. The fungus differs from other described Lomaantha species in its conidiophores, conidiogenous cells and conidial appendages. Conidial morphology and presence or absence of percurrent proliferation of conidiogenous cells are the main characters distinguishing species within this genus. We provided a key and synoptic table of morphological characters of all three Lomaantha species.

Sinomyces gen. nov. is described for Ulocladium alternariae and two new species from China. These three species differ from Ulocladium in producing simple conidiophores with a single, cicatrized apical pore or 1 or 2 short, uniperforate, geniculate sympodial proliferations. Phylogenetic analysis of partial DNA sequences of the glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase gene (gpd) gene and a fragment of the Alternaria alternata major allergen (Alt a 1) gene, using Maximum-Parsimony (MP), Maximum-Likelihood (ML) and Bayesian approaches, indicates that Sinomyces is distinct within the Alternaria-Stemphylium complex, although its closest relatives could not be determined. Sinomyces alternariae comb. nov. and the new species Sinomyces obovoideus and Sinomyces fusoideus are proposed.

Two new species of Stemphylium (anamorphic Pleospora) are described on the basis of morphological characters and molecular phylogenetic analyses. Stemphylium phaseolina and S. variabilis were isolated respectively from diseased leaves of Phaseolus vulgaris L. in Hebei Province, China, and from diseased leaves of Allium sativum L. in Angres, France. The two species exhibit characteristic Stemphylium morphology but are distinct from similar species based on the morphology and development of conidia. The internal transcribed spacer (ITS) nuclear rDNA region and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (gpd) genes were sequenced. The results of maximum parsimony (MP) and maximum likelihood (ML) phylogenetic analyses of the combined DNA sequences of these two gene regions supported S. phaseolina and S. variabilis as two distinct phylogenetic species. The taxonomic descriptions of the new species and their comparison with related species are presented, together with the phylogenetic analysis based on combined DNA sequences of ITS and gpd gene regions.

Genetic variation of MHC BLB2 gene exon 2 in Hebei domestic chicken was investigated, after PCR and sequencing of a 374bp fragment (containing entire exon 2 (270bp) of BLB2 gene) in 76 individuals. The results showed that along this fragment, there were 69 variable sites, of which 18 were novel variations, and 82 estimated haplotypes with the diversity of 0.960. In Hebei domestic chicken, the nucleotide diversity (?), the average number of nucleotide differences (k), the average number of nucleotide diversity of synonymous substitution (?(s)) and non-synonymous substitution (?(a)) in BLB2 gene exon 2 were 0.098, 24.688, 0.075, and 0.106, respectively; nine non-synonymous substitutions was exclusively found in the peptide-binding sites (PBS) region of BLB2 gene exon 2, inferring that these unique substitutions might be helpful to resist some special bacteria and pathogens. The higher genetic diversity of MHC BLB2 gene exon 2 in Hebei domestic chicken might be consistent with its more robust disease resistance.

Syntheses of biotinylated probe molecules of L-glutathione (GSH) equipped with boronic acid moiety and evaluation of their binding affinities against glutathione-S-transferase (GST) were described. It revealed that the presence of boronic acid moiety in an appropriate position enhances binding affinity of GSH probe toward GST probably by forming a reversible cross-link. Among prepared, the boronate-containing probe 8b exhibited the highest recovering ability of GST from Escherichia coli cell lysate.

A new species of Ulocladium was isolated from diseased leaves from two Cucumis sp. growing in Sinkiang and Gansu provinces of China. Conidia were isolated from necrotic leaves and used to establish single-spore pure cultures. Conidia were harvested from cultures 7 d after incubation for morphological comparisons. The morphology of this species resembles that of U. botrytis and U. consortiale. However it is distinguished from these two species by the sizes of obovoid to broadly ellipsoidal conidia and longer conidiophores. A taxonomic description of U. cantlous, comparison with related species in this genus, and a species phylogeny based on the partial nucleotide sequence of the glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (gpd) gene and the Alternaria alternata major allergen (Alt a 1) gene are provided.

The organic anion-transporting polypeptides (rodents: Oatps; human: OATPs) belong to the growing family of organic anion/prostaglandin transporters and are important components of the active efflux transport system at the choroid plexus epithelial cells. OATPs facilitate the elimination of xenobiotics and endogenous waste from the cerebrospinal fluid and prevent waste accumulation in the central nervous system (CNS). This review summarizes the structures, regulations and roles of Oatps/OATPs at the choroid plexus in drug delivery to the CNS.

Atorvastatin calcium is a 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase inhibitor indicated for the prevention of cardiovascular disease and for the treatment of dyslipidemia. Information on the pharmacokinetics of atorvastatin in a Chinese population is lacking, and regulatory requirements necessitate a bioequivalence study for the marketing of a generic product in China.

A tetramethylpyrazine analogue, CXC195, was synthesized by the Boekelheide reaction, in which the second methyl group of tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) was replaced with (4,4-fluorine) diphenyl-methyl-1-piperazidine, the active group of flunarizine. We have observed protective effects of CXC195 on vascular endothelial cell survival under oxidative stress in previous study. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of CXC195 against apoptosis induced by hydrogen peroxide in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Accordingly, a biochemical approach to elucidate the apoptotic signal pathways was attempted. HUVECs were exposed to 150 muM H(2)O(2) for 12 h, resulting in an increase of apoptotic cells assessed by the nuclear staining assay and flow cytometry. Mitochondrial membrane potential was detected by retention of rhodamine123. The concentration of free intracellular calcium was determined by fura-2/AM fluorometry. Co-incubation with CXC195 reduced the percentage of apoptotic cells and inhibited the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential and intracellular calcium overload induced by H(2)O(2). Induction of p53, the activation of caspase-3 by H(2)O(2) which accompanying downregulation of bcl-2, was blocked by CXC195. In addition, CXC195 clearly improved phosphorylation levels of the antiapoptotic extracellular signal-regulated kinase-1/2 (ERK1/2) in cells undergoing oxidative damage. Moreover, CXC195 showed stronger effects on inhibition of apoptotic cells and loss of mitochondrial membrane potential and activation of phosphorylated ERK1/2 than TMP. These results suggest that CXC195 prevents reactive oxygen species-induced apoptosis through inhibition of the mitochondria-dependent caspase-3 pathway and ERK pathway to show a better beneficial effect in protecting endothelial cells than TMP.

Evaluating the impact of plant domestication on the population structure of the associated pathogens provides an opportunity to increase our understanding of how and why diseases emerge. Here, we investigated the evolution of the population structure of the apple scab fungus Venturia inaequalis in response to the domestication of its host. Inferences were drawn from multilocus microsatellite data obtained from samples collected on (i) the Central Asian Malus sieversii, the main progenitor of apple, (ii) the European crabapple, Malus sylvestris, a secondary progenitor of apple, and (iii) the cultivated apple, Malus x domestica, in orchards from Europe and Central Asia. Using clustering methods, we identified three distinct populations: (i) a large European population on domesticated and wild apples, (ii) a large Central Asian population on domesticated and wild apples in urban and agricultural areas, and (iii) a more geographically restricted population in M. sieversii forests growing in the eastern mountains of Kazakhstan. Unique allele richness and divergence time estimates supported a host-tracking co-evolutionary scenario in which this latter population represents a relict of the ancestral populations from which current populations found in human-managed habitats were derived. Our analyses indicated that the domestication of apple induced a significant change in the genetic differentiation of populations of V. inaequalis in its centre of origin, but had little impact on its population dynamics and mating system. We discuss how the structure of the apple-based agrosystem may have restricted changes in the population structure of the fungus in response to the domestication of its host.

An ice-like hexameric water cluster, stabilized by the flexible bis-imidazolyl compound 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-1,4-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene (Fbix), is found in the trigonal R3 crystal structure of the title compound, C(14)H(10)F(4)N(4).2H(2)O or Fbix.2H(2)O. The Fbix molecule lies about an inversion centre with one water molecule in the asymmetric unit in a general position. A cyclic chair-like hexameric water cluster with 3 symmetry is generated with a hydrogen-bonded O...O distance within the hexamer of 2.786 (3) A. The Fbix molecule adopts a trans conformation, where the imidazole ring makes a dihedral angle of 70.24 (11) degrees with the central tetrafluorinated aromatic ring. Each water hexamer is connected by six Fbix molecules through intermolecular O-H...N hydrogen bonds [N...O = 2.868 (3) A] to yield a three-dimensional supramolecular network with primitive cubic (pcu) topology. Large voids in each single pcu network lead to fourfold interpenetrated aggregates of Fbix.2H(2)O.

This study aims to compare the apparent diffusion coefficients (ADCs) and proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy ((1)H-MRS) in the first 24 h of acute hypoxic-ischemic brain damage (HIBD) in piglets. Twenty-five 7-day-old piglets were subjected to transient bilateral common carotid artery occlusion followed by ventilation with 4% oxygen for 1 h. Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and (1)H-MRS were performed on cessation of the insult or at 3, 6, 12 or 24 h after resuscitation (all n=5). ADCs, N-acetylaspartate/choline (NAA/Cho), NAA/creatine (NAA/Cr), lactate/NAA (Lac/NAA), Lac/Cho and Lac/Cr were calculated. Cerebral injury was evaluated by pathological study and Hsp70 immunohistochemical analysis. On cessation of the insult, ADCs, NAA/Cho and NAA/Cr reduced, Lac/NAA, Lac/Cho and Lac/Cr increased. From 3 to 12 h after resuscitation, ADCs, Lac/NAA, Lac/Cho and Lac/Cr recovered, NAA/Cho and NAA/Cr reduced. Twenty-four hours after resuscitation, ADCs reduced once more, Lac/NAA, Lac/Cho and Lac/Cr increased again, whereas NAA/Cho and NAA/Cr decreased continuously. Pathological study revealed mild cerebral edema on cessation of the insult and more and more severe cerebral injury after resuscitation. No Hsp70-positive cells were detected on cessation of the insult. From 3 to 12 hours after resuscitation, Hsp70-positive cells gradually increased. Twenty-four hours after resuscitation, Hsp70-positive cells decreased. Throughout the experiment, changes in NAA/Cho and pathology had the best correlation (R=-0.729). In conclusion, NAA/Cho is the most precise ratio to reflect the pathological changes of early HIBD. Transient ADCs and Lac ratios recovery do not predict the reversal of histological damage of early HIBD. Reducing astrocytic swelling is of great clinical significance.

Okanisi Tameto (1898 - 1973) lived in Northeast China for 34 years after he came to China at the age of 17. During these 34 years, he graduated from a student to a doctor, became an editor, professor and finally became an excellent researcher of TCM, who made monumental contributions to the development of TCM. Okanisi Tameto witnessed the brutality of war, being even in danger of his life several times. The wars made his life even harder, his parents and friends died in the turbulent years, but all of this did not affect his faith as well as his enthusiasm in studying TCM. After returning to his country when middle-aged, he worked for a pharmaceutical company and lived a simple and plain life. However, his research and writing never stopped. In his lifetime he completed 272 articles, as well as books, dissertations and essays etc. his famous book Songyiqianyijikao (Textual Research on Medical Books of the Pre-Song Period)-a famous TCM literary work that was completed in 1931 - 1948. The Beijing Peoples Medical Publishing House published his book in 1958, which attracted the attention of the Asian and European TCM sectors.

The petroleum-degrading bacteria in Shengli Oil Field wetland soil were isolated and identified by traditional experiment methods, and their diversity was analyzed by PCR-DGGE (denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis). A total of thirteen petroleum-degrading bacterial strains were isolated, among which, six strains were found to have the ability of degrading the majority of C12-C26 petroleum hydrocarbon, with a degradation rate of > 90%. These petroleum degraders were phylogeneticly identified as the members of Halomonas, Alcanivorax, and Marinobacter, which were all belonged to gamma-proteobacteria. The uncultured predominant bacteria in Shengli Oil Field wetland soil were of Sulfurovum, Gillisia and Arcobacter. Among the predominant bacteria, gamma-proteobacteria accounted for a larger proportion, followed by alpha-proteobactiria, epsilon-proteobactiria, Actinobacteria, and Flavobacteria.
