how inductor current stores magnetic energy

An inductor stores energy in its magnetic field. That field is created by the current flowing through the coil. When the current stays steady, there is no measurable voltage across the inductor, so it behaves like a short circuit for direct current.

The energy stored in an inductor is the total power delivered over time. It can be written as a function of inductance, L, and current, i, where the stored energy increases with the current in the coil. This relationship helps explain how much energy is held in the magnetic field at any moment.

Ideal inductors do not lose energy, so the stored energy can be used later. Real inductors are not perfect, though. They may have winding resistance, which comes from the conductor coils and appears in series with the inductance. This resistance can cause some energy loss, but it is usually so small that it can be ignored in practice.

Non-ideal inductors can also have winding capacitance. This comes from capacitive coupling between the conducting coils. In most cases, this effect is very small as well, but it can matter at high frequencies.
