Power connects work with the time needed to do it. Work depends on force and displacement. The work-energy theorem also links net work on an object to the change in its kinetic energy between two points on its path. These ideas do not include time directly, but time still matters in many real situations.

回想一下,功是能量的传递,因此功率可以表示为能量传递的速率。例如,一个100瓦的灯泡比一个50瓦的灯泡更亮,因为100瓦灯泡每秒辐射出的能量是50瓦灯泡的两倍。
同理,两名举重运动员将重量举起至特定高度时所做的功相同,但在更短时间内完成者具有更大的功率输出。
当所做的功随时间变化时,将总功除以总时间所得到的功率称为平均功率。
如果缩短时间间隔以确定某一特定时刻的功率输出,则称为瞬时功率。当功率在一段时间间隔内保持恒定时,瞬时功率等于平均功率。
