Nomenclature of Aromatic Compounds with a Single Substituent

Gemäß der IUPAC-Nomenklatur werden monosubstituierte Benzolderivate benannt, indem der Name des Substituenten dem Ausgangsbenzol vorangestellt wird.
Die IUPAC hat auch gebräuchliche Bezeichnungen für einfache monosubstituierte Benzolderivate akzeptiert. Zum Beispiel Toluol für Methylbenzol und Phenol für Hydroxybenzol.
Benzol und seine alkylsubstituierten Derivate werden oft als Arene bezeichnet. Sie werden in Abhängigkeit von der Größe der Alkylgruppe benannt.
Wenn die Alkylgruppe sechs oder weniger Kohlenstoffe enthält, wird das Aren als alkylsubstituiertes Benzol bezeichnet.
Umgekehrt, wenn die Alkylgruppe mehr als sechs Kohlenstoffe aufweist oder aus anderen funktionellen Gruppen besteht, wird der Benzolring als Substituent behandelt. Und das Aren wird als phenylsubstituierte Verbindung bezeichnet.
Der Name Phenyl, abgekürzt als Ph–, steht für dieC6H5-Gruppevon Benzol als Substituente, wie z. B. in 2-Phenylheptan.
In ähnlicher Weise stellt Benzyl, abgekürzt als Bn–, die Phenylmethylgruppe als Substituente dar, wie z. B. in Benzylchlorid.
Aryl, abgekürzt als Ar–, ist der Substituent, der aus einem Aren abgeleitet wird, nachdem ein Wasserstoffatom aus dem aromatischen Ring entfernt wurde.

Benzol ist der einfachste aromatische Kohlenwassersubstanz oder Aren. Die IUPAC-Namen für einfache monosubstituierte Benzolderivate werden abgeleitet, indem der Name des Substituenten als Präfix dem Stammbenzol hinzugefügt wird. Zum Beispiel Halogenbenzol, wobei das Halogen Fluor (F), Chlor (Cl), Brom (Br) und Jod (I) sein könnte.

Die Benennung aromatischer Verbindungen hängt auch von der Kettenlänge der am Benzolring angebrachten Alkylgruppe ab. Wenn die Alkylkette sechs oder weniger Kohlensubstanze aufweist, wird die Verbindung als Alkyl-substituiertes Benzol bezeichnet. Zum Beispiel Propylbenzol, bei dem die Alkylgruppe drei Kohlensubstanzatome hat.

Wenn die Alkylkette jedoch mehr als sechs Kohlensubstanzatome aufweist oder andere bevorzugte funktionelle Gruppen enthält, wird die Verbindung als phenylsubstituiertes Derivat bezeichnet. Der aus Benzol erhaltene Substituent wird als Phenylgruppe (Ph-) bezeichnet, während der aus Toluol abgeleitete Substituent Benzylgruppe (Bn-) ist. Zum Beispiel 1-Phenylheptan, dessen Alkylkette sieben Kohlensubstanzatome hat,

Im Allgemeinen werden die durch Wassersubstanzabspaltung von Arenen abgeleiteten Substituenten Aryle genannt. Einige der einfachen monosubstituierten Benzolderivate haben gebräuchliche, von der IUPAC-Nomenklatur akzeptierte Namen erhalten. Vinylbenzol ist zum Beispiel Styrol und Isopropylbenzol ist Cumol. Benzaldehyd und Benzoesäure sind weitere Beispiele.

Benzene derivatives with one substituent are named by attaching the substituent name to benzene. Benzene is the simplest aromatic hydrocarbon, also called an arene. For simple monosubstituted benzene compounds, IUPAC naming uses the group name as a prefix.

Halogen-substituted benzene compounds follow this pattern. The halogen prefix can be fluoro, chloro, bromo, or iodo. When an alkyl group is attached to the benzene ring, the name depends on the chain length of that group.

If the alkyl chain has six or fewer carbons, the compound is named as an alkyl-substituted benzene. Propylbenzene is one example, and its alkyl group has three carbons. If the alkyl chain has more than six carbons, or if another preferred functional group is present, the compound is named as a phenyl-substituted derivative.

The benzene-derived substituent is called phenyl, written as Ph-. The group derived from toluene is called benzyl, written as Bn-. Examples include 1-phenylheptane, 1-phenyl-1-pentanone, diphenyl ether, and benzyl bromide. In general, substituents formed from arenes by loss of hydrogen are called aryl groups. Some simple monosubstituted benzene derivatives also have common names accepted by IUPAC, including styrene for vinylbenzene, cumene for isopropylbenzene, benzaldehyde, and benzoic acid.

Five-membered aromatic rings with heteroatoms are cyclic compounds that contain one or more atoms other than carbon in the ring. They are aromatic and can have either five or six atoms in the ring.
