Power

Power misst die Geschwindigkeit, mit der Arbeit erledigt wird. Die SI-Einheit der Leistung ist Watt und ist definiert als ein Joule Arbeit, die in einer Sekunde erledigt wird.
Erinnern wir uns daran, dass Arbeit die Übertragung von Energie ist, daher kann Macht als die Übertragungsrate von Energie dargestellt werden. Zum Beispiel leuchtet eine 100-Watt-Glühbirne heller als eine 50-Watt-Glühbirne, weil die von der 100-Watt-Glühbirne pro Sekunde abgegebene Energie doppelt so hoch ist wie die der 50-Watt-Glühbirne.
In ähnlicher Weise erledigen zwei Gewichtheber die gleiche Menge an Arbeit, während sie ein Gewicht auf eine bestimmte Höhe heben, aber derjenige, der es in kürzerer Zeit schafft, hat mehr Leistung.
Wenn die geleistete Arbeit in Abhängigkeit von der Zeit variiert, wird die Leistung, die durch Division der gesamten geleisteten Arbeit durch die Gesamtzeit erhalten wird, als durchschnittliche Leistung bezeichnet.
Wenn die Zeitintervalle verkürzt werden, um die Ausgangsleistung an einem bestimmten Punkt zu finden, spricht man von Momentanleistung. Sie entspricht der durchschnittlichen Leistung, wenn die Leistung über ein Zeitintervall konstant ist.

Wir können die Beziehung zwischen der verrichteten Arbeit und der benötigten Zeit, um sie zu verrichten, ausdrücken, indem wir das Konzept der Leistung einführen. Da die Arbeit in Abhängigkeit von der Zeit variieren kann, definieren wir zuerst die durchschnittliche Leistung als die während eines Zeitintervalls verrichtete Arbeit, geteilt durch das Intervall. Arbeit und Energie werden in Einheiten von Joule gemessen, daher wird die Leistung in Joule pro Sekunde gemessen, was die SI-Einheit Watt, W, genannt wird: 1 J/s = 1 W. Power connects work with the time needed to do it. Work depends on force and displacement. The work-energy theorem also links net work on an object to the change in its kinetic energy between two points on its path. These ideas do not include time directly, but time still matters in many real situations.

A sprinter is a clear example. Two runners may reach the same finish speed, so they do the same amount of work. The winner is the one who reaches that speed in less time. Power describes this difference by comparing work done with the time used.

Average power is the work done during a time interval divided by that interval. Because work and energy are measured in joules, power is measured in joules per second. The SI unit for this is the watt, where 1 J/s equals 1 W. Another common unit is horsepower, and 1 hp equals 746 W.

The work-energy theorem can be applied to motion along a curved path. A curved path can be treated as many tiny straight paths added together.
