Skalar Notation ist eine nützliche Methode zur Vereinfachung von Berechnungen, die Vektoren betreffen. Wenn Vektoren addiert oder subtrahiert werden, können ihre Komponenten separat mittels Skalar Notation addiert oder subtrahiert werden. Beispielsweise kann die Kraft, eine Vektorgröße, in ihre x- und y-Komponenten zerlegt werden, die als rechteckige Komponenten bezeichnet werden, und dann können die Größe und Richtung dieser Komponenten mit trigonometrischen Funktionen bestimmt werden.
