Arbeit entsteht, wenn eine Kraft, die auf ein Objekt wirkt, dieses verschiebt. Sie ist gleich dem Produkt der skalaren Kraftkomponente entlang der Verschiebungsrichtung.
Mathematisch kann die Arbeit als Punktprodukt aus der ausgeübten Kraft und der Verschiebung des Objekts angegeben werden.
Die SI-Arbeitseinheit ist das Joule. Ein Joule ist die Arbeit, die geleistet wird, wenn eine Kraft von einem Newton ein Objekt um einen Meter verschiebt.
Da es sich bei der Arbeit um eine skalare Größe handelt, kann ihre Größe positiv, negativ oder null sein, abhängig von der Richtung der Kraft relativ zur Verschiebung.

Betrachten Sie das Beispiel eines Krans, der eine Last nach oben hebt. Hier sind die aufgebrachte Kraft und die Verschiebungsvektoren in die gleiche Richtung ausgerichtet, so dass die geleistete Arbeit positiv ist.

In einem anderen Beispiel wirkt die Bremskraft beim Bremsen eines fahrenden Autos in die entgegengesetzte Richtung zur Bewegung des Fahrzeugs. Hier ist die geleistete Arbeit negativ.

Eine reibungsfreie Riemenscheibe, die eine Last durch eine masselose, nicht dehnbare Schnur hebt, leistet keine Arbeit, da Kraft und Verschiebung senkrecht stehen.

Arbeit ist ein grundlegendes Konzept des Maschinenbaus und hat viele Anwendungen. Das Verständnis, wie Arbeit berechnet wird und welche Arten von Arbeit es gibt, kann uns helfen, physikalische Prozesse besser zu verstehen und Einblicke in komplexe Probleme zu gewinnen. Arbeit wird definiert als das Ergebnis einer auf einen Gegenstand wirkenden Kraft, die ihn entlang der Wirkungslinie der Kraft bewegt. Sie wird auch als der Prozess definiert, bei dem Energie durch die Anwendung von Kraft auf einen Gegenstand übertragen wird und zu seiner Verschiebung führt. Diese Energieübertragung ist verantwortlich für die Veränderungs der Bewegung oder Position des Gegenstands. Arbeit kann als das Produkt aus der Kraft und der Komponente der Verschiebung in gleicher Richtung geschrieben werden oder alternativ als Skalarprodukt der auf den Gegenstand ausgeübten Kraft und der Verschiebung. Das SI-System betrachtet das Joule als seine Einheit— dies entspricht der Durchführung von einem Newton Kraft über einen Meter Verschiebung. Die Art der Arbeit, die an einem Gegenstand verrichtet wird, hängt von der Richtung der Kraft in Bezug auf die Verschiebung ab. Wenn die aufgebrachte Kraft und die Verschiebung parallel zueinander sind, ist die verrichtete Arbeit positiv und wenn sie antiparallel sind, ist die verrichtete Arbeit negativ. Wenn die aufgebrachte Kraft und die Verschiebung senkrecht zueinander stehen, ist die verrichtete Arbeit null. Ein Beispiel für positive Arbeit ist, wenn ein Kran eine schwere Last anhebt— durch das Ausüben einer aufwärts gerichteten Kraft auf die Last bewegt sie sich relativ zur Bodenhöhe nach oben. Negative Arbeit tritt auf, zum Beispiel, wenn Bremsen auf ein sich bewegendes Auto— aufgebracht werden - die Räder üben eine Kraft aus, die seiner Bewegung entgegenwirkt und führen somit zu negativer Arbeit. Einige Kräfte, wie diejenigen, die auf festen Punkten wirken oder senkrecht zur Verschiebung, verrichten keine Arbeit. Beispiele hierfür sind die Reaktion an einer reibungsfreien Stiftverbindung, wenn sich der gestützte Körper darum dreht, die Reaktionskraft, die auf einen Körper wirkt, der sich auf einer reibungsfreien Oberfläche bewegt, usw. Kräfte, die Arbeit verrichten, sind jedoch das Gewicht eines Körpers und die Reibungskraft, die auf einen Körper wirkt, der sich auf einer rauen Oberfläche bewegt. In einigen Fällen ist die Summe der Arbeit, die von mehreren Kräften verrichtet wird, null. Zum Beispiel erfordern zwei starre Körper, die durch eine reibungsfreie Stiftverbindung verbunden sind, gleiche, aber entgegengesetzte Kräfte für die Bewegung, sodass ihre kombinierte Arbeit null ist. Ähnlich haben zwei Blöcke, die durch ein dehnbares Seil miteinander verbunden sind, Spannungskräfte mit gleicher Größe, aber entgegengesetzten Vorzeichen, was zu null Arbeit führt. Insgesamt können das Verständnis, welche Kräfte Arbeit verrichten und wie man Arbeit berechnet, hilfreiche Einsichten in komplexe physikalische Probleme geben und uns ermöglichen, diese Prozesse effektiv für die gewünschten Ergebnisse zu steuern.

Work

work in force and motion

Work connects force, motion, and energy in mechanics. It happens when a force acts on an object and the object moves along the line of action of that force. Work can also be described as energy transfer caused by applying a force, which leads to a change in the object’s motion or position.

Work is calculated as the force multiplied by the part of the displacement in the same direction as the force. It can also be written as the dot product of the applied force and the object’s displacement. In the SI system, the unit of work is the joule. One joule is equal to one newton of force acting over one meter of displacement.

The direction of the force compared with the displacement tells us the type of work done. When the force and displacement are parallel, the work is positive. When they are anti-parallel, the work is negative. When the force and displacement are perpendicular, the work is zero.

A crane lifting a heavy load is an example of positive work. The crane applies an upward force, and the load moves upward. Brakes on a moving car show negative work. The wheels exert a force that opposes motion, so work is done against the car’s movement.

Some forces do no work. This includes forces acting at fixed points or forces perpendicular to displacement. Examples include the reaction at a frictionless pin when a body rotates about it, and the reaction force on a body moving on a frictionless surface. Forces that do work include the weight of a body and friction acting on a body moving on a rough surface.

In some systems, the total work done by multiple forces is zero. Two rigid bodies connected by a frictionless pin need equal and opposite forces for motion, so their combined work is zero. The same idea applies to two blocks connected by an extensible cord, where the tension forces have equal magnitude but opposite signs. Knowing which forces produce work helps explain physical processes and solve mechanical problems.
