Wenn eine Gleichstromquelle abrupt an eine RC-Schaltung angelegt wird, wird ihre Spannung als Einheitsschrittfunktion dargestellt.
Die Spannung am Kondensator ist die Sprungantwort.
Da sich die Spannung an einem Kondensator nicht sofort ändern kann, bleibt sein Wert unmittelbar nach dem Schalten derselbe wie der Wert unmittelbar vor dem Schalten.
Indem man das aktuelle Gesetz von Kirchhoff zu einem Zeitpunkt gleich Null anwendet, die Terme neu anordnet und die Gleichung für eine Zeit größer als Null umschreibt, erhält man eine Differentialgleichung erster Ordnung.
Das Integrieren der Gleichung, das Anwenden der Grenzwerte und das Betrachten der Exponentialfunktion auf beiden Seiten ergibt die Sprungantwort des Kondensators für Zeiten größer als Null.
In Kombination mit der Anfangsspannung des Kondensators als Schaltungsantwort für eine Zeit kleiner als Null ergibt sich die vollständige Reaktion der RC-Schaltung.
Mit der Zeit steigt die Spannung des Kondensators exponentiell an und nähert sich der Spannung der Quelle.
Ist der Kondensator zunächst ungeladen, ändert sich das gesamte Ansprechverhalten entsprechend. Daraus wird der Strom durch den Kondensator bestimmt, der mit der Zeit exponentiell abnimmt.

Die Kombination dieser Sprungantwort mit der Anfangsspannung am Kondensator (für t<0) ergibt die vollständige Antwort der RC-Schaltung. Mit fortschreitender Zeit steigt die Spannung am Kondensator exponentiell an und nähert sich der angelegten Quellenspannung an. Dieser Vorgang stellt die Aufladung des Kondensators dar. Wenn der Kondensator zunächst ungeladen ist, wird das Gesamtverhalten der Schaltung entsprechend geändert. Aus dieser veränderten Reaktion wird der Strom durch den Kondensator berechnet. Man beobachtet, dass dieser Strom mit der Zeit exponentiell abnimmt, was das allmähliche Laden des Kondensators darstellt, bis er die Quellenspannung erreicht. Zusammenfassend lässt sich sagen, dass das Verständnis der Sprungantwort einer RC-Schaltung wertvolle Erkenntnisse darüber liefert, wie diese Schaltungen auf plötzliche Änderungen der Eingangsspannung reagieren. An RC circuit with a DC source shows how a capacitor charges after a sudden voltage step. The applied source is treated as a unit step function, and the capacitor voltage is the step response of the circuit. This response describes how the circuit reacts right after the input changes.

A capacitor cannot change its voltage instantly. So, immediately after the switch closes at t=0, the capacitor voltage stays at its initial value. Kirchhoff’s current law is then applied at that moment and rewritten for times t&gt;0. This produces a first-order differential equation for the circuit current.

The differential equation is solved by integration. After applying the limits and taking the exponential form, the capacitor’s step response is found for t&gt;0. When this result is combined with the capacitor voltage for t&lt;0, it gives the complete response of the RC circuit. If the capacitor starts uncharged, the response is adjusted accordingly.

As time passes, the capacitor voltage rises exponentially and approaches the source voltage. This is the charging process of the capacitor. The current through the capacitor can also be calculated from the modified response. It decreases exponentially with time as the capacitor gradually charges until it reaches the source voltage.

Understanding the step response of an RC circuit helps explain how the circuit reacts to a sudden DC input. This is useful for analyzing and designing electronic circuits. It is especially important in signal processing, where capacitors are often used to filter or shape signals.
