Die Spannung wird als die Kraft beschrieben, die mit einer fest gezogenen Schnur, einem Seil oder einem Seil verbunden ist. Es handelt sich um eine Zugkraft, da sie nur ein Objekt ziehen und nicht schieben kann.

Die x-Komponente der Spannung ist die einzige Kraft, die in horizontaler Richtung wirkt.
In vertikaler Richtung wirkt die y-Komponente der Spannung zusammen mit der Normalkraft nach oben und die Anziehungskraft nach unten.
Wendet man das zweite Newtonsche Gesetz auf das System an, erhält man die Zugkraft, die von der Saite ausgeübt wird, und die Normalkraft, die von der Oberfläche auf den Kasten ausgeübt wird.

Die Sehnen sind dabei relative reibungsfrei. Ebenso überträgt ein Bremskabel am Fahrrad die Spannung von den Lenkern auf den Bremsmechanismus. Auch hier ändert sich die Richtung, aber nicht der Betrag der Spannungskraft.
