Wenn sich ein Partikel entlang einer gekrümmten Trajektorie bewegt, kann seine Bewegung mit Hilfe von Tangential- und Normalenkomponenten beschrieben werden. Beide Komponenten sind an das Partikel angehängt und bewegen sich mit ihm.
Für die n-Achse wird der gekrümmte Pfad des Partikels in mehrere verschiedene Bogensegmente aufgeteilt. Jedes Segment bildet den Bogen eines Kreises mit einem Krümmungsradius und einem Krümmungsmittelpunkt.
Die n-Achse verläuft senkrecht zur t-Achse, und ihre positive Bedeutung zeigt auf den Mittelpunkt der Krümmung, die mit dem Einheitsvektor un definiert ist.
Der Pluspunkt der t-Achse wird entlang der zunehmenden Position des Partikels auf der Bahn definiert und mit einem Einheitsvektor ut bezeichnet.
Die Geschwindigkeit des Teilchens ist immer tangential zum Pfad der krummlinigen Bewegung und hat nur eine t-Komponente.
Die Unterscheidung des Geschwindigkeitsausdrucks mit der Zeit ergibt die Beschleunigung des Teilchens. Hier ändert sich ut in jedem Augenblick, und seine Änderung bezeichnet die Richtung von un.

Wenn ein Auto eine gekrümmte Straße überquert, kann seine Bewegung aufgeklärt werden, indem man sie in tangentiale und normale Komponenten zerlegt. Die am Fahrzeug angebrachten fahrzeugzentrierten Koordinaten verschieben sich mit.

Die positive Richtung der t-Achse richtet sich nach der zunehmenden Position des Autos entlang der gekrümmten Bahn, angegeben durch den Einheitsvektor u_t. Gleichzeitig zerlegt die n-Achse senkrecht zur t-Achse den gekrümmten Pfad in unterschiedliche Bogensegmente, die jeweils einen Kreisbogen mit einem Krümmungsradius und einem Krümmungsmittelpunkt bilden. Curved path motion is described with tangential and normal axes. These car-centered coordinates move with the vehicle as it travels. The t-axis points in the direction of increasing position along the curved path. The n-axis is perpendicular to the t-axis and points toward the center of curvature.

The path can be split into tiny arc segments. Each segment matches part of a circle with a radius of curvature and a center of curvature. The positive n-direction uses the unit vector u n . This normal component shows how the car departs from a straight-line path because of the road’s curvature.

The car’s velocity stays tangent to the road. That means it has only a t-component. When velocity is differentiated with respect to time, the car’s acceleration is found. Because the unit vector u t changes with time, the direction of u n also changes.

As a result, curvilinear motion has both tangential and normal components of acceleration. Together, these components give a fuller picture of how a car moves along a curved trajectory.
