Wenn ein Ende der Stange fixiert ist, ist die Verformung gleich der Verschiebung des freien Endes. Wenn sich jedoch beide Enden der Stange bewegen, wird die Verformung durch die relative Verschiebung eines Endes gegenüber dem anderen gemessen.
Stellen Sie sich eine Anordnung aus drei elastischen Stäben vor, die durch einen starren Stift an Punkt O verbunden sind. Wenn eine Last am freien Ende von Stab 1 aufgebracht wird, verformt sich jeder Stab.

In Szenarien, in denen ein Ende der Stange fixiert ist, entspricht die Verformung der Verschiebung ihres freien Endes. Wenn sich jedoch beide Enden einer Stange bewegen, wird die Verformung anhand der relativen Verschiebung eines Endes gegenüber dem anderen gemessen. Stellen Sie sich ein System aus drei elastischen Stäben vor, die durch einen starren Stift verbunden sind. Wenn eine Belastung an einem Punkt ausgeübt wird, verformt sich jeder Stab. Calculating rod stretch from mixed loads starts with breaking the rod into parts. This step is needed when the rod is made of different materials or has changes in cross-section. Each part has its own internal force, cross-sectional area, length, and modulus of elasticity.

These values are used to find the deformation of the full rod. For a member with a variable cross-section, the strain is not constant. Instead, it changes with position along the rod. The deformation of a small element is written first, and the total deformation is found by integrating that expression over the full length.

The meaning of deformation also depends on how the rod is supported. If one end is fixed, the deformation is the displacement of the free end. If both ends move, the deformation is measured as the relative displacement of one end compared with the other.

This idea also applies to a system of three elastic bars connected by a rigid pin. When a load is applied at one point, each bar deforms. For the bars attached to fixed supports, the common deformation is measured by the displacement of a chosen point. For the bar with moving ends, deformation is the difference between the displacements of the two points.
