Ein schlanker Stab, der einer axialen Belastung ausgesetzt ist, verformt sich in axialer und querer Richtung. Die Verformung wirkt sich auf die kubischen Elemente darin aus.
Je nach Ausrichtung verwandelt sich der Würfel in einen rechteckigen Quaderepiped oder eine Raute, was zu einer Scherdehnung führt.
Durch die axiale Belastung des Elements ergibt sich eine Kombination aus Schub- und Normaldehnungen.
Das Aufbringen einer axialen Last löst Normal- und Schubspannungen an Elementen aus, die in einem Winkel von 45 Grad zur Lastachse ausgerichtet sind.
Wenn das kubische Element mit einer diagonalen Ebene geschnitten wird, bildet es ein prismatisches Element. Das prismatische Element ändert seine Innenwinkel und Seiten in einer Weise, die proportional zu den durch die Last erzeugten Dehnungen ist.
Durch Anwendung der Formel für die Tangente der Differenz zweier Winkel wird das Verhältnis zwischen der maximalen Schubdehnung und der axialen Dehnung bestimmt.
Aus dem Hookeschen Gesetz ergibt sich die Beziehung zwischen den Konstanten. Aus den beiden anderen kann eine Konstante bestimmt werden.

Wenn eine axiale Belastung auf einen schlanken Stab ausgeübt wird, treten Verformungen in axialer und transversaler Richtung auf. Diese Verformung wirkt sich auf das kubische Element innerhalb des Stabes aus und verwandelt es je nach Ausrichtung entweder in ein rechteckiges Parallelepiped oder in eine Raute. Dieser Transformationsprozess induziert eine Scherspannung. Eine axiale Belastung führt sowohl zu Scher- als auch zu Normaldehnungen. Das Aufbringen einer Axiallast führt zu gleichen Normal- und Scherspannungen auf Elemente, die in einem Winkel von 45° zur Lastachse ausgerichtet sind. Bezeichnenderweise erreicht die Scherspannung bei dieser bestimmten Ausrichtung ihr Maximum.

Wenn eine diagonale Ebene das kubische Element schneidet, entsteht ein prismatisches Element. Dieses prismatische Element verändert seine Innenwinkel und Seiten proportional zu den durch die Belastung verursachten Dehnungen. Dieser Verformungsprozess verdeutlicht die Auswirkungen von Spannungen auf die strukturelle Integrität des Elements. Die Beziehung zwischen maximaler Scherdehnung und axialer Dehnung kann durch Anwendung des Ausdrucks für den Tangens der Differenz zwischen zwei Winkeln abgeleitet werden.

Axial load effects on shear strain are shown by how a slender bar deforms under tension or compression. When the bar is loaded along its axis, it changes in both the axial direction and the transverse direction. A small cubic element inside the bar can turn into a rectangular parallelepiped or a rhombus, depending on how it is oriented.

This change in shape creates shearing strain, which is the distortion caused when angles in a material change. Axial loading produces both normal strain and shearing strain. For an element placed at 45° to the load axis, the normal stress and shearing stress are equal. The shearing strain is also at its maximum at this orientation.

If a diagonal plane cuts through the cubic element, a prismatic element is formed. This element changes its sides and internal angles in response to the load-induced strains. The result shows how stress affects the structural form of the element under axial loading.

The maximum shearing strain can be related to axial strain by using the tangent of the difference between two angles. This relationship helps explain how the two strain types interact. Hooke's law links the material constants, so one constant can be found if the other two are known. That connection is key to understanding how a material responds to stress and strain.
