Bei einem gekrümmten Stab mit gleichmäßigem Querschnitt zeigt die Dehnungsgleichung entlang des Querschnitts, dass er nichtlinear mit dem Abstand von der neutralen Achse variiert.
Die Anwendung des Hookeschen Gesetzes ergibt die Spannung, die im gekrümmten Bauteil erzeugt wird. Ähnlich wie bei der Dehnung variiert auch die Spannung nichtlinear, und das Diagramm der Spannung gegenüber dem Abstand von der neutralen Achse führt zu einer Hyperbel.
Dabei sind alle Elementarkräfte, die auf einen Querschnitt wirken, statisch äquivalent zum Biegepaar, und seine Summe über die quer verlaufende z-Achse ergibt die Gleichung für den Moment.
Wenn man den Wert der Spannung einsetzt und die Gleichungen vereinfacht, erhält man die Beziehung, die den Abstand vom Mittelpunkt der Krümmung C zur neutralen Oberfläche angibt. Es zeigt, dass die neutrale Oberfläche des gekrümmten Bauteils beim Biegen nicht durch den Schwerpunkt dieses Abschnitts verläuft.
Das Umschreiben des Ausdrucks für den Moment in Bezug auf die Spannung und das Durchführen der Integration zeigt, dass sich die neutrale Fläche für ein gekrümmtes Bauteil unabhängig von seiner Form immer zwischen dem Schwerpunkt und dem Krümmungsradius befindet.

Bei gebogenen Trägern ist die Spannungsverteilung über den Querschnitt im Gegensatz zu geraden Trägern aufgrund der Krümmung des Trägers nicht gleichmäßig. Diese Ungleichmäßigkeit entsteht, weil die neutrale Achse, wo die Spannung Null ist, nicht mit dem Schwerpunkt des Abschnitts übereinstimmt. Bei einem gekrümmten Träger variiert die Dehnung entlang des Abschnitts als Funktion des Abstands von der neutralen Achse.

Betrachten Sie das in der vorherigen Lektion beschriebene gebogene Element. Curved beams have a non-uniform stress pattern across the cross-section because of their curvature. The stress is not spread evenly the way it is in a straight beam. The neutral axis, or the line where stress is zero, does not pass through the centroid of the section.

In a curved member, strain changes with distance from the neutral axis. Hooke’s law still links stress and strain within the elastic limit of the material. Because the strain changes in a non-linear way, the stress also changes non-linearly and forms a hyperbolic distribution from the neutral axis.

The bending moment in a curved beam is found by integrating the stress over the cross-section. The small forces acting on the section combine to form a bending couple that matches the moment. This moment equation is important for predicting how the beam responds under load.

The neutral surface, where longitudinal stress is zero, shifts toward the center of curvature. It does not stay at the centroid of the section. For any beam shape, the neutral axis lies between the centroid and the radius of curvature.
