Betrachten wir zwei starre Stäbe gleicher Länge, AB und BC, die miteinander verbunden sind, und eine Feder mit konstantem k, die mit dem Punkt B verbunden ist. Wie groß ist die kritische Last für dieses System, wenn die Last F an Punkt A senkrecht nach unten aufgebracht wird?
Die Stange wird durch die aufgebrachte Last um einen kleinen Winkel durchgelenkt, was zu einer Dehnung X in der Feder führt.
Das Freikörperdiagramm für beide Stäbe wird gezeichnet, und die Kraftgleichgewichtsgleichung wird für die horizontale Richtung angewendet. 
Betrachtet man den Stab AB separat, so wird die Gleichgewichtsgleichung für das Moment der Kräfte im Punkt B angewendet. Das Lösen dieser Gleichung ergibt die Lagerreaktion im Punkt A.
In ähnlicher Weise ergibt sich durch Anlegen des Gleichgewichts des Kräftemoments am Punkt B wiederum die Lagerreaktion am Punkt C.
Setzt man die Reaktionslager an den Punkten A und B in die Kraftgleichgewichtsgleichung ein, erhält man die Gesamtfederkraft, die die beiden Reaktionslager ausgleicht. Hier kann die Dehnung der Feder nicht Null sein, was den entsprechenden kritischen Lastwert für das gegebene System ergibt.

Die Eulersche Formel wird in der Bautechnik verwendet, um die Knicklast von Stützen unter verschiedenen Bedingungen zu bestimmen. Wenn es sich jedoch um Systeme handelt, die sowohl starre Elemente als auch elastische Komponenten wie Federn enthalten, erfordert die Analyse einen feineren Ansatz zur Bestimmung der kritischen Last. Bei dem beschriebenen Problem handelt es sich um zwei starre Stangen, die an einem Drehpunkt mit einer daran befestigten Feder verbunden sind und an deren einem Ende eine vertikale Last ausgeübt wird.

Das System besteht aus zwei vertikalen starren Stangen AB und BC gleicher Länge, die ähnlich einem Kniegelenk am Drehpunkt B verbunden sind. An B ist eine Zugfeder mit konstantem k befestigt, die horizontal wirkt. Wenn am Punkt A eine vertikale Last F nach unten ausgeübt wird, drehen sich die Stangen um den Drehpunkt B. Die Feder wirkt dieser Kraft entgegen und zieht Punkt B an seine ursprüngliche Position zurück, was zu einer Dehnung X in der Feder führt.

Um dieses System zu analysieren, wird zunächst ein Freikörperdiagramm für jeden Stab verwendet und die Prinzipien des statischen Gleichgewichts werden angewendet, um die auf die Stäbe wirkenden Kräfte zu analysieren. Die Axiallast F bewirkt, dass das System am Punkt B schwenkt, was sowohl eine horizontale als auch eine vertikale Kraft auf die Stangen zur Folge hat.

Es wird eine Gleichgewichtsgleichung für die auf das System wirkenden horizontalen Kräfte aufgestellt, die die Federkraft aufgrund der Dehnung X einbezieht. Das Momentengleichgewicht bei B für Stab AB ermöglicht die Bestimmung der Reaktionskraft am Punkt A. Dazu muss das durch die aufgebrachte Last F erzeugte Moment berechnet und mit dem Moment aufgrund der Reaktionskraft gleichgesetzt werden. In ähnlicher Weise ergibt die Untersuchung des Kraftmoments um Punkt B für den Stab BC die Reaktionskraft am Punkt C. Dieser Schritt berücksichtigt auch die Federkraft und ihren Momentenarm relativ zum Punkt B. Wir können die gesamte Federkraft berechnen, indem wir die Reaktionen bei den Punkten A und C in die horizontale Kraftgleichgewichtsgleichung einsetzen. Diese Kraft gleicht die durch die Reaktionskräfte an den Punkten A und C erzeugten Momente aus.

Die kritische Belastung für das System wird bestimmt, indem man erkennt, dass die Dehnung X der Feder in direktem Zusammenhang mit der aufgebrachten Belastung F steht. Spring-loaded column buckling analysis uses static equilibrium to find the critical load in a rigid bar system. The setup has two equal-length rigid bars, AB and BC, joined at pivot point B. A tension spring with constant k is attached to B and pulls horizontally. A vertical load F is applied at point A, and the bars rotate around the pivot like a knee joint.

As point B moves, the spring stretches by an amount X. The spring then pushes back against the sideways motion of B. To study the forces, free-body diagrams are drawn for each bar. Static equilibrium is then applied to track the horizontal and vertical forces in the rods.

The axial load F creates force components in the bars and also produces a bending moment at the joint. The moment equilibrium around B for bar AB is used to find the reaction force at point A. The same method is applied to bar BC to determine the reaction force at point C. This step also includes the spring force and its moment arm relative to B.

After the reactions at A and C are found, they are used in the horizontal force balance to calculate the total spring force. That spring force counteracts the moments created by the reactions in the structure. The critical load is identified when the spring elongation, and therefore the spring force, can no longer be balanced by the assembly. At that point, buckling begins.

The final expression for the critical load depends on the spring constant k, the bar length, and the geometry of the system at the onset of buckling. This makes the problem a useful example of how a spring changes the stability of a column-like structure. It also shows how Euler’s formula can be adapted when rigid members and elastic parts work together.
