Der Brückengleichrichter, der für die Umwandlung von Wechselstrom in Gleichstrom unerlässlich ist, besteht aus vier Dioden, die in einer Brückenkonfiguration angeordnet sind.
Diese Anordnung ermöglicht es, sowohl die positive als auch die negative Hälfte der Wellenform zu korrigieren.
Während der positiven Halbzyklen der Eingangsspannung leitet der Brückengleichrichter Strom durch die Dioden D1 und D2 und den Widerstand R, während die Dioden D3 und D4 in Sperrrichtung vorgespannt sind.
Umgekehrt ist bei negativen Halbzyklen die Sekundärspannung negativ, und der Strom fließt durch die Dioden D3 und D4 und den Widerstand R, wobei die Dioden D1 und D2 in Sperrrichtung vorgespannt sind.
Trotz der wechselnden Zyklen bleibt die Richtung des Stromflusses konstant, was zu einer gleichbleibend positiv pulsierenden DC-Ausgangsspannung führt.
Die inverse Spitzenspannung wird während positiver Halbzyklen ermittelt und beträgt etwa die Hälfte des Wertes für einen Vollwellengleichrichter mit einem Transformator mit Mittenabgriff.
Der Brückengleichrichter benötigt weniger Umdrehungen für die Sekundärwicklung des Transformators, wodurch er effizienter und kompakter wird.
Der Wirkungsgrad des Brückengleichrichters kann durch die Verwendung von Schottky-Dioden oder durch den Einbau eines Kondensatorfilters gesteigert werden, der Verluste reduziert und die Qualität des DC-Ausgangs verbessert.

Der Brückengleichrichter ist in der Elektronik unverzichtbar, um Wechselstrom (AC) effizient in Gleichstrom (DC) umzuwandeln. Dieser Gleichrichter besteht aus vier in Brückenanordnung angeordneten Dioden und verarbeitet sowohl die positive als auch die negative Hälfte der Wechselstromwellenform effektiv, wodurch er Halbwellen- und Vollwellengleichrichtern mit Mittelanzapfung in Bezug auf Spannungsregelung und Ausgangsstabilität überlegen ist.

Im Betrieb ermöglicht der Brückengleichrichter während jeder Halbwelle des Wechselstromeingangs den Stromfluss durch zwei seiner Dioden. Insbesondere während der positiven Halbwellen leiten die Dioden D_1 und D_2, wodurch Strom durch den Lastwiderstand R fließen kann, während die Dioden D_3 und D_4 in Sperrrichtung vorgespannt und nicht leitend sind. Diese Aktion kehrt sich während der negativen Halbwellen um, in denen die Dioden D_3 und D_4 leiten und D_1 und D-2 in Sperrrichtung vorgespannt sind. Trotz der alternierenden Natur der Eingangsspannung bleibt der Strom durch den Lastwiderstand R in einer einzigen Richtung, was einen stetigen, positiv pulsierenden Gleichstromausgang gewährleistet.

Die erforderliche Spitzensperrspannung (PIV) ist die von der Quellenspannung (V_S) abgezogene Diodenspannung (V_D), was einen Wert ergibt, der ungefähr der Hälfte des Vollweggleichrichters mit einem Transformator mit Mittelanzapfung entspricht. Daher ist der Brückengleichrichter effizienter und ermöglicht ein kompakteres und kostengünstigeres Design.

Darüber hinaus erfordert die Sekundärwicklung des Transformators in einer Brückengleichrichterschaltung weniger Windungen als die einer Transformatorkonfiguration mit Mittelanzapfung, was seine Gesamteffizienz verbessert. Die Leistung eines Brückengleichrichters kann auch durch die Integration von Schottky-Dioden, die für ihren geringen Durchlassspannungsabfall und ihre schnelle Wiederherstellungszeit bekannt sind, oder durch Hinzufügen eines Kondensatorfilters zur Minimierung der Welligkeit erheblich verbessert werden, wodurch ein Gleichstromausgang höherer Qualität erzeugt wird.

A bridge rectifier converts alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC) using four diodes arranged in a bridge layout. It is used to turn both halves of the AC waveform into a single-direction output. That makes it an important part of many electronics circuits.

During the positive half-cycle, diodes D1 and D2 conduct. Current then flows through the load resistor R. At the same time, D3 and D4 are reverse-biased, so they do not conduct.

The action switches during the negative half-cycle. Diodes D3 and D4 conduct, while D1 and D2 are reverse-biased. Even though the input keeps alternating, the current through the load resistor still moves in one direction. The output is a steady positive pulsating DC signal.

A bridge rectifier can offer better voltage regulation and output stability than a half-wave rectifier or a full-wave center-tapped rectifier. It also needs a peak inverse voltage (PIV) of about V D subtracted from V S, which is roughly half the PIV needed in a center-tapped full-wave rectifier. This helps make the design more compact and cost-effective.

The transformer secondary in a bridge rectifier circuit also needs fewer turns than a center-tapped transformer setup. Performance can improve further with Schottky diodes, which have a low forward voltage drop and fast recovery time. A capacitor filter can also reduce ripple and produce higher-quality DC output.
