Linearität ist eine Systemeigenschaft mit einer direkten Input-Output-Beziehung, die Homogenität und Additivität kombiniert.
Die Homogenität besagt, dass, wenn eine Eingabe mit einer Konstanten multipliziert wird, die Ausgabe mit derselben Konstante multipliziert wird. Additivität bedeutet, dass die Reaktion auf mehrere Eingaben die Summe ihrer individuellen Antworten ist.
Ein System, das sowohl Homogenitäts- als auch Additivitätseigenschaften aufweist, wird als lineares System klassifiziert.
Zu den linearen Systemen gehören Schaltungen mit Widerständen, Kondensatoren und Induktivitäten, die dem Überlagerungsprinzip folgen.
Umgekehrt werden Systeme, die sich nicht an die Linearitätsgleichung halten, als nichtlinear eingestuft, wozu häufig auch Geräte wie Gleichrichter und Dioden gehören.
Ein kausales System zeichnet sich durch eine aktuelle Reaktion aus, die unabhängig von zukünftigen Eingabewerten ist. Ein Beispiel kann die Bewegung eines Autos sein, die zukünftige Fahrvorgänge nicht vorhersagen kann.
Nichtkausale Systeme, wie z. B. ideale Filter, können nicht physikalisch realisiert werden und folgen nicht dem Prinzip der Kausalität.
Dynamische Systeme zeigen einen Speicher, bei dem die Ausgabe sowohl von vergangenen als auch von zukünftigen Eingaben beeinflusst wird.
Statische Systeme sind speicherlose oder momentane Systeme, bei denen die Stromausgabe ausschließlich auf der vorhandenen Eingabe basiert.

Additivität bedeutet, dass die Antwort auf die Summe mehrerer Inputs die Summe ihrer einzelnen Antworten ist. Für die Eingänge x_1(t) und x_2(t), die die Ausgänge y_1(t) bzw. y_2(t) erzeugen:

Die Kombination von Homogenität und Additivität ergibt die Gleichung eines linearen Systems:

Lineare Systeme umfassen Schaltkreise mit Widerständen, Kondensatoren und Induktoren, die dem Superpositionsprinzip folgen. Umgekehrt werden Systeme, die die Linearitätsgleichung nicht befolgen, als nichtlinear klassifiziert, wie z. B. Gleichrichter und Dioden.

Ein kausales System ist ein System, bei dem die aktuelle Reaktion unabhängig von zukünftigen Eingangswerten ist. Beispielsweise kann die Bewegung eines Autos zukünftige Fahraktionen nicht vorhersagen, was es zu einem kausalen System macht. Im Gegensatz dazu können nicht-kausale Systeme wie ideale Filter nicht physisch realisiert werden, da sie nicht dem Prinzip der Kausalität folgen.

Dynamische Systeme verfügen über ein Gedächtnis, bei dem die Ausgabe von vergangenen und gegenwärtigen Eingaben abhängt. Ein Beispiel ist ein Stromkreis mit Kondensatoren oder Induktoren, bei dem die gegenwärtige Ausgabe von vergangenen Eingaben beeinflusst wird. Statische Systeme, auch als gedächtnislose oder unverzögertes Systeme bekannt, haben Ausgaben, die ausschließlich auf der gegenwärtigen Eingabe basieren, wie z. B. ein einfacher Widerstandskreis, bei dem die Ausgangsspannung eine direkte Funktion der aktuellen Eingangsspannung ist.

Das Verständnis dieser Eigenschaften – Linearität, Kausalität und Gedächtnis – ist für die Analyse und Entwicklung von Systemen in verschiedenen technischen Bereichen von entscheidender Bedeutung.

System properties such as linearity, causality, and memory help describe how a system responds to input. These ideas are useful for studying and designing systems in engineering. A system can be checked by looking at how its output changes with different inputs.

Linearity means the input-output relationship follows homogeneity and additivity. Homogeneity says that if an input x(t) is multiplied by a constant c, the output y(t) is multiplied by the same constant. Additivity means the response to a sum of inputs equals the sum of the separate responses. Together, these rules define a linear system, and circuits with resistors, capacitors, and inductors can follow the superposition principle.

Systems that do not satisfy the linearity equation are non-linear. Diodes and rectifiers are examples of non-linear systems. Causality is another key property. A causal system depends only on the present input and past inputs, not on future values.

A car’s motion is a simple example of a causal system, because it cannot depend on future driving actions. Non-causal systems, such as ideal filters, are not physically realizable because they do not follow causality. Memory is the last major property. Dynamic systems have memory, so their output depends on past and present inputs, as in circuits with capacitors or inductors. Static systems, also called memoryless or instantaneous systems, depend only on the present input. A simple resistor circuit is an example, since its output voltage is a direct function of the current input voltage.
