Bei der Analyse von Audiosystemen ist das Verständnis der Übertragungsfunktionen von entscheidender Bedeutung.

Dies liegt daran, dass solche Funktionen implizieren, dass die Ausgabe bei begrenzten Eingabesignalen unbegrenzt werden kann, was das Prinzip der Beschränktheit verletzt.

Zusammenfassend sind die Pole einer Übertragungsfunktion – ob einfach, wiederholt oder komplex – entscheidend für das Verständnis der Reaktion und Stabilität des Systems. Transfer function poles and stability are key ideas in how an LTI system behaves. A transfer function is the ratio of two polynomials. Its numerator and denominator describe the system dynamics, and the poles and zeros help show how the system responds over time.

Simple poles are unique roots of the denominator polynomial. Each simple pole matches a distinct solution of the system’s characteristic equation. In the time domain, this usually leads to exponential decay terms in the response.

Repeated poles appear more than once in the denominator. They show a more complex response and can lead to oscillatory behavior or slower decay rates. The time-domain form can include terms like t^n e^σt, where n is the pole multiplicity and σ is the real part of the pole.

Complex poles have both real and imaginary parts. They usually come in conjugate pairs, written as σ ± jω. These poles create oscillatory responses with sine and cosine terms, together with an exponential decay factor e^σt(cos(ωt) + j sin(ωt)).

Pole location in the s-plane determines BIBO stability, which means bounded input, bounded output. For a stable LTI system, the poles must lie in the left half-plane. Repeated poles in the left half-plane can still be stable, but the response decays more slowly because the system order is higher.

Poles in the right half-plane make the system unstable. They produce exponential growth in the response, so the output can become unbounded even when the input stays bounded. Proper rational functions, where the numerator degree is less than or equal to the denominator degree, follow the same stability ideas as strictly proper functions. Improper rational functions, where the numerator degree is larger than the denominator degree, are not BIBO stable because bounded inputs can still lead to unbounded output.
