Das Hauptziel des Mischens von Beton besteht darin, seine Bestandteile zu rühren, um sicherzustellen, dass die Zuschlagstoffe gleichmäßig mit Zementleim bedeckt sind, was zu einer gleichmäßigen Mischung führt.
Typischerweise wird Beton mit Chargenmischern oder Durchlaufmischern gemischt.
Chargenmischer verarbeiten eine komplette Charge nach der anderen, mischen die Zutaten und entladen sie dann, bevor die nächste Charge eingeführt wird. Es gibt vier Arten von Chargenmischern: kippbare Trommelmischer, nicht kippbare Trommelmischer, Pfannenmischer und Doppeltrommelmischer.
Ein kippbarer Trommelmischer verwendet interne Schaufeln, um Beton zu mischen, und entleert die Mischung durch Kippen der Trommel. Im Gegensatz dazu entleert ein nicht kippbarer Trommelmischer das Mischgut durch eine Rutsche oder durch Umkehren der Trommeldrehung.
Das Mischen von Beton in Chargen kann in einem Pfannenmischer mit Paddeln oder in einem Doppeltrommelmischer mit einem zweistufigen Mischprozess innerhalb einer Tandemanordnung von Trommeln erfolgen.
Durchlaufmischer nehmen automatisch und kontinuierlich Zutaten auf, die dann mit einem Trommelmischer oder einer Schnecke, die sich in einem stationären Gehäuse bewegt, gleichmäßig kombiniert werden, was zu einem konstanten Abfluss des Mischbetons führt.
Um die Effizienz des Mischers bei der Herstellung einer gleichmäßigen Mischung zu gewährleisten, werden schließlich Proben an bestimmten Entladestellen entnommen und auf Konsistenz untersucht.

Beim Betonmischen wird eine homogene Mischung gewährleistet, bei der die Zuschlagstoffe gut mit Zementleim beschichtet sind. Beton wird üblicherweise mit zwei Hauptmischern gemischt: Chargenmischer und Durchlaufmischer. Chargenmischer verarbeiten jeweils eine Charge und mischen die Materialien gründlich, bevor sie nach dem Entladen die nächste Charge aufnehmen. Durchlaufmischer hingegen erhalten einen stetigen Fluss von Ausgangsstoffen, mischen diese gleichmäßig und entladen sie ohne Unterbrechung. Bei Chargenmischern mischen Kipptrommelmischer mit internen Schaufeln und entladen durch Kippen, während nicht kippbare Trommelmischer zum Entleeren eine Rutsche oder eine Rückwärtsdrehung verwenden. Ringtrogmischer mit um eine vertikale Achse rotierenden Schaufeln und Zwei-Trommelmischer, die ein sequentielles Mischen in zwei Trommeln ermöglichen, sind ebenfalls im Chargenbetrieb üblich. Betonmischer sind in einer Vielzahl von Kapazitäten von 0,04 Kubikmeter bis 12,99 Kubikmeter erhältlich. Das Mischen eines Volumens, das nur einen kleinen Teil der Gesamtkapazität des Mischers ausmacht, ist ineffizient und kann zu inkonsistenten Mischungen führen. Ebenso kann eine Überlastung des Mischers über seine empfohlene Kapazität hinaus um mehr als 10 % zu einer ungleichmäßigen Mischung führen. Um die Effizienz des Mischers bei der Erzielung einer gleichmäßigen Mischung über alle Chargen hinweg zu überprüfen, werden an verschiedenen Entnahmestellen Proben entnommen und anhand festgelegter Kriterien wie Dichte, Luftgehalt, Setzmaß und Druckfestigkeit auf Konsistenz geprüft.

Concrete mixing creates a uniform blend of cement, aggregates, and paste. The goal is to coat the aggregates evenly with cement paste. Mixers used for this job are usually grouped into two main types: batch mixers and continuous mixers.

Batch mixers handle one load at a time. They mix the materials thoroughly, discharge the batch, and then receive the next one. Continuous mixers work differently. They take in a steady flow of ingredients, mix them at a constant rate, and discharge the concrete without stopping.

Several batch mixer designs are common. Tilting drum mixers use internal blades and empty by tilting the drum. Non-tilting drum mixers discharge through a chute or by reverse rotation. Pan-type mixers use paddles that rotate around a vertical axis. Dual drum mixers allow the material to pass through two drums in sequence.

Mixer size also matters. Concrete mixers come in many capacities, from 1.5 cubic feet to 17 cubic yards. Using only a small part of the mixer can be inefficient and may lead to an uneven mix. Overloading the mixer by more than 10% can also reduce uniformity.

To check mixer performance, samples are taken from different discharge points. These samples are tested for consistency using measures such as density, air content, slump, and compressive strength. This helps show whether the mixer produces the same quality mix across batches.
