Ein Mischen von weniger als 1 bis 1,5 Minuten kann zu einer ungleichmäßigen Betonmischung mit geringerer Festigkeit führen.
Die optimale Mischzeit zur Herstellung von gleichmäßigem Beton hängt von der Mischerkapazität ab; für einen Mischer mit einer Kapazität von bis zu einem Kubikmeter ist eine Mischzeit von mindestens einer Minute erforderlich, die sich für jeden weiteren Kubikmeter um fünfzehn Sekunden erhöht.
Darüber hinaus sind der Mischertyp, die Drehzahl und die Mischqualität während der Beschickung der Zutaten entscheidend für die Bestimmung der optimalen Mischzeit.
Längeres Mischen kann zur Verdunstung von Wasser aus der Mischung, zum Mahlen weicher Zuschlagstoffe, zu einer verminderten Verarbeitbarkeit der Mischung, zu einer Erhöhung der Mischungstemperatur aufgrund von Reibungseffekten und zu einer Abnahme des Luftgehalts für luftmitgerissenen Beton führen.

Mixing Time

Das Konzept der Mischzeit ist für die Herstellung einer gleichmäßigen Betonmischung mit der erforderlichen Festigkeit von entscheidender Bedeutung. Die Mischzeit beginnt, sobald sich alle Komponenten im Mischer befinden. Zunächst wird der Mischer mit 10 % Wasser befüllt, anschließend werden nach und nach Feststoffe und dann 80 % Wasser hinzugefügt. Das restliche Wasser wird später, innerhalb des ersten Viertels der Mischzeit, hinzugefügt. Die Mindestmischzeit variiert je nach Kapazität des Mischers. Mischer mit bis zu 0,76 Kubikmetern Kapazität benötigen beispielsweise mindestens 1 Minute, wobei für jeden zusätzlichen 0,76 Kubikmete eine Erhöhung um 15 Sekunden erfolgt. Bei der Bestimmung der optimalen Mischzeit ist es auch wichtig, die Art des Mischers, seine Rotationsgeschwindigkeit und die Qualität der Mischung während der Befüllung zu berücksichtigen. Während Standardmischer oft eine Mischzeit von mindestens 1 bis 1,5 Minuten benötigen, sind moderne Mischer auch mit kürzeren Mischzeiten effektiv. Bei Verwendung von Leichtzuschlagstoffen sollte die Mischdauer nicht unter 5 Minuten liegen, und bei Luftporenbeton sollte sie mindestens 2 oder 3 Minuten betragen. Längeres Mischen kann zur Verdunstung von Wasser, zu Veränderungen der Gesteinskörnung, zu einer Verringerung der Verarbeitbarkeit, zu erhöhten Temperaturen und bei Luftporenbeton zu einer Verringerung des Luftgehalts führen.

Concrete mixer charging and timing are key to making a uniform concrete mix with the needed strength. Mixing begins only after all ingredients are inside the mixer. The usual charging order starts with 10% of the water, then the solid materials are added steadily, followed by 80% of the water. The last portion of water is added later, within the first quarter of the total mixing period.

The minimum mixing time depends on mixer capacity. Mixers with up to 1 cubic yard of capacity need at least 1 minute, and the time increases by 15 seconds for each extra cubic yard. Mixer type, rotation speed, and how well the materials blend during charging also affect the best mixing time. Standard mixers often need at least 1 to 1.5 minutes, while modern mixers can work well in less time.

Some concrete mixes need longer mixing periods. If lightweight aggregate is used, the mixing time should be at least 5 minutes. For air-entrained concrete, the time should be at least 2 or 3 minutes. Too much mixing can cause water to evaporate, change aggregate grading, lower workability, and raise the temperature. In air-entrained concrete, prolonged mixing can also reduce air content.
