Traditionell wird Beton mit einer Rutsche, einem Buggy, einem Rohr oder einem Förderband platziert.
Spezielle Methoden, wie z. B. das Tremie-Betonieren, verwenden ein glattes, vertikales Rohr mit wasserdichten Fugen, um hochverarbeitbaren Beton in tiefen Formen oder unter Wasser zu platzieren.
Der Beton im Rohr fließt unter der Schwerkraft, wenn er allmählich angehoben wird, wodurch sichergestellt wird, dass sein Ende im Beton versinkt und das Eindringen von Wasser verhindert wird.
Eine weitere spezialisierte Methode zum kontinuierlichen Einbringen und Verdichten von schwer verarbeitbarem Beton ist die Gleitschalungstechnik, bei der Formen verwendet werden, die nach dem Aushärten des Betons horizontal oder vertikal mit gleichmäßiger Geschwindigkeit vorgeschoben werden können.

Der Beton wird so nah wie möglich an seiner endgültigen Position eingebracht, um eine Entmischung zu vermeiden.  Beim Betonieren wird darauf geachtet, dass der Beton in gleichmäßigen Schichten eingebracht wird. Das manuelle Schaufeln und Bewegen des Betons mit Innenrüttlern wird vermieden. Außerdem führen erhebliche Verzögerungen beim Einfüllen des Betons in die Schalungen bei vertikalen Strukturen zur Bildung von Schichtenfugen. Beim Betonieren in tiefen Abschnitten wird eine Kollision mit Schalung oder Bewehrung vermieden. Bei geneigten Flächen wird der Beton in vertikalen Ebenen gegen die vorhergehende Schicht verlegt.


 Zum Betonieren werden häufig Methoden wie Rutschen, Wagen, Förderbänder und das Pumpen von Beton mithilfe von Rohren verwendet. Bestimmte Situationen können jedoch fortgeschrittene Techniken erfordern. Beim Kontraktorverfahren, das sich für tiefe und Unterwassereinbringungen eignet, wird ein vertikales Rohr mit wasserdichten Dichtungen verwendet, das den Beton durch die Schwerkraft fließen lassen. Beim Betonieren wird das Rohr angehoben, während sein Ende im Beton eingetaucht bleibt, um das Eindringen von Wasser zu verhindern. Im Gegensatz dazu wird das Gleitschalungsverfahren zum kontinuierlichen Verlegen und Verdichten von Beton in vertikalen Strukturen verwendet. Die Schalungen bewegen sich beim Aushärten des Betons stetig nach oben, was eine kurze Einbauzeit ermöglicht.

Concrete placement methods focus on keeping the mix in a uniform shape and position. The concrete is placed as close as possible to its final location to reduce segregation, which is the separation of ingredients. It is then fully compacted to remove trapped air. The next layer is added while the layer below is still plastic, or soft enough to shape.

The rate of placing and compacting concrete is kept equal. Concrete is laid in uniform layers, and hand shoveling is avoided. Moving concrete with poker vibrators is also avoided. In vertical forms, long delays can cause cold joints, which are weak lines where fresh concrete does not bond well with older concrete.

Placement also changes with the shape of the structure. In deep sections, concrete should not strike the formwork or reinforcement. On inclined surfaces, concrete is placed in vertical planes against the previous layer. Common placement methods include chutes, buggies, conveyor belts, and pumping concrete through pipes.

Some conditions need special techniques. Tremie concreting is used for deep and underwater placement. It uses a vertical pipe with water-tight seals so concrete flows by gravity. As concrete is placed, the pipe is lifted, but its end stays buried in the concrete to keep water out. Slip-forming is used for continuous placement and compaction in vertical structures. The forms move steadily upward as the concrete sets, which allows rapid construction.
