Das Ölen und Befeuchten von Formen vor dem Gießen von Beton hilft bei der Aushärtung von Betonbauteilen mit einem kleinen Oberflächen-Volumen-Verhältnis.
Diese Formen können für eine bestimmte Zeit an Ort und Stelle belassen und benetzt werden, wenn sie aus Holz bestehen, oder wenn sie frühzeitig entfernt werden, muss der Beton angefeuchtet und mit Polyethylenplatten abgedeckt werden.
Eine Abdeckung wird über frisch verlegten großen horizontalen Betonflächen aufgehängt, die trockener Witterung ausgesetzt sind, bis der Beton ausgehärtet ist, gefolgt von einer nassen Aushärtung. 
Das Sprühen oder Vernebeln von Wasser mit einem Düsensystem und das Aufstauen oder Überfluten von Betonoberflächen mit Wasser erleichtert die Nasshärtung.
Alternativ kann das Abdecken von Beton mit angefeuchtetem Sägemehl oder Stroh oder gesättigten feuchtigkeitsspeichernden Geweben wie nassen Hessian- oder Baumwollmatten, die entweder periodisch bewässert oder mit einer Polyethylenfolie überzogen werden, den Wasser-Beton-Kontakt gewährleisten.
Die Bereitstellung von undurchlässigen Membranen auf Beton kann die Verdunstung von Feuchtigkeit minimieren, aber das Eindringen von Feuchtigkeit verhindern. Diese können aus wasserfesten Papieren, Kunststoffplatten oder membranbildenden Dichtmassen bestehen, die manuell aufgetragen oder auf feuchte Betonoberflächen gesprüht werden.  
Die Aushärtung von Laborproben aus Beton erfolgt durch Eintauchen in Wasser.

Betonelemente mit einem kleinen Verhältnis von Oberfläche zu Volumen werden ausgehärtet, indem die Formen vor dem Gießen des Betonelements geölt und befeuchtet werden. Diese Formen können über einen längeren Zeitraum an Ort und Stelle belassen werden, um Feuchtigkeitsverlust zu verhindern, und können befeuchtet werden, wenn sie aus einem für die Befeuchtung geeigneten Material bestehen. Wenn die Formen frühzeitig entfernt werden, wird das Betonelement befeuchtet und mit Polyethylenfolien abgedeckt, um die Feuchtigkeit zu erhalten. Bei großen horizontalen Betonflächen, die trockenem Wetter ausgesetzt sind, wird eine temporäre Abdeckung über der Oberfläche angebracht, bis der Beton fest wird. Danach beginnt die Nassaushärtung. Die Nassaushärtung kann erreicht werden, indem Wasser mithilfe eines Düsensystems über den Beton gesprüht oder genebelt wird oder indem die Oberflächen mit Wasser benetzt werden. Auch das Abdecken des Betons mit angefeuchtetem Sägemehl, Stroh oder gesättigten feuchtigkeitsspeichernden Stoffen wie nassen Jute- oder Baumwollmatten hält den Kontakt des Betons mit Wasser aufrecht. Undurchlässige Membranen wie wasserdichtes Papier, Kunststofffolien oder membranbildende Dichtungsmassen werden ebenfalls verwendet, um die Verdunstung aus dem Beton zu reduzieren. Diese Membranen können jedoch den Feuchtigkeitsverlust durch Selbsttrocknung nicht ersetzen, da das Eindringen von Feuchtigkeit von außen in den Beton unmöglich ist. Das Aushärten von Betonproben im Labor erfolgt durch Eintauchen in Wasser.

Concrete curing for moisture retention helps fresh concrete keep the water it needs as it hardens. For members with a small surface-to-volume ratio, the forms are often oiled and moistened before the concrete is placed. These forms may stay in place for a long time to reduce moisture loss. If the form material can be wetted, it can also be kept damp.

When forms are removed early, the concrete member is moistened and then covered with polythene sheets. Large horizontal concrete surfaces in dry weather need special care. A temporary cover is suspended above the surface until the concrete sets. After that, wet curing begins.

Wet curing keeps the surface in contact with water. It can be done by spraying or fogging water through nozzles. It can also be done by ponding, which means holding water on the surface. Other materials such as moistened sawdust, straw, wet hessian, or cotton mats may also be used. These water-retaining coverings help prevent the concrete from drying out.

Some curing methods use impervious membranes, such as waterproof paper, plastic sheets, or sealing compounds that form a membrane. These materials reduce moisture evaporation from the concrete. However, they do not replace water lost by self-desiccation, because outside moisture cannot enter the concrete. For laboratory test specimens, curing is often done by immersion in water.
