Der typische Dampfaushärtungszyklus für Beton beginnt mit einer anfänglichen Verzögerungsphase der feuchten Aushärtung, gefolgt von einer Erhitzungsperiode, in der die Dampftemperatur mit einer Geschwindigkeit von 40 bis 60 Grad Fahrenheit pro Stunde erhöht wird, bis sie ein Maximum von 150 bis 180 Grad Fahrenheit erreicht.
Diese Spitzentemperatur wird ohne zusätzliche Wärmezufuhr aufrechterhalten, und der Beton nimmt in dieser Zeit Restwärme und Feuchtigkeit auf.
Der Dampfhärtungszyklus endet mit einer Abkühlphase, in der die Temperatur sinkt.
Bei der elektrischen Aushärtungstechnik wird Wechselstrom angelegt, um das Betonbauteil durch externe Elektroden, den Bewehrungsstahl im Beton oder Heizdecken zu erwärmen und so den Aushärtungsprozess zu beschleunigen.
Alternativ ermöglicht das Erhitzen von Beton mit Infrarotheizungen, das Zirkulieren von heißem Öl um die Stahlschalungen oder das Abdecken von kalt temperiertem Beton mit Isoliermatten eine beschleunigte Aushärtung.

Accelerated Curing of Concrete

Die Beschleunigung der Betonaushärtung wird durch die Anwendung von Wärme und zusätzlicher Feuchtigkeit erreicht. Dieser Prozess beschleunigt die Hydratation des Zements, was zu einer früheren Festigkeitssteigerung des Betons führt. Bei der Dampfaushärtung werden die Betonprodukte entweder auf einem Förderband durch eine Kammer transportiert oder in Kunststoff eingehüllt, sodass Dampf bei atmosphärischem Druck frei um sie herum zirkulieren kann. Dieser Prozess beginnt mit einer Phase der feuchten Aushärtung, die normalerweise zwischen 3 und 5 Stunden dauert. Danach wird die Temperatur schrittweise um 4,44 bis 15,56 Grad Celsius pro Stunde erhöht, bis sie maximal 65 bis 82 Grad Celsius erreicht. Der Beton kann dann die Restwärme und Feuchtigkeit aufnehmen, ohne dass weitere Wärme zugeführt wird. Es folgt eine Abkühlphase, in der die Temperatur sinkt. Die Hochdruckdampfaushärtung wird hauptsächlich zum Aushärten kleinerer Betonfertigteile wie Hohlblocksteinen verwendet. Alternativ wird Beton durch Anlegen von Wechselstrom über externe Elektroden, Bewehrungsstahl oder um den Beton gewickelte Heizdecken erhitzt. Andere Techniken umfassen den Einsatz von Infrarotstrahlern oder die Zirkulation von heißem Öl um die Stahlformen. Bei Beton, der Minustemperaturen ausgesetzt ist, werden Isolierdecken oder Schichten aus porösen Materialien wie Heu oder Stroh verwendet, um Wärmeverlust zu verhindern und das Aushärten zu erleichtern.

Concrete can gain strength faster when heat and extra moisture speed up cement hydration. This faster hydration helps the concrete build early strength sooner than normal curing. The process is used when quicker hardening is needed after casting.

One common method is steam curing. Concrete products may move through a chamber on a conveyor belt, or they may be encased in plastic so steam at atmospheric pressure can circulate around them. Steam curing starts with moist curing for about 3 to 5 hours. The temperature is then raised slowly, usually by 40 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit per hour, until it reaches about 150 to 180 degrees Fahrenheit.

After the target temperature is reached, the concrete is held so it can absorb the remaining heat and moisture without more added heat. A cooling period follows, and the temperature is allowed to drop. High-pressure steam curing is mainly used for smaller precast products, such as hollow concrete masonry blocks.

Other heating methods can also speed curing. Concrete may be warmed by alternating current through external electrodes, reinforcing steel, or electric blankets wrapped around it. Infrared heaters and hot oil around steel forms are other options. When concrete is exposed to freezing temperatures, insulating blankets or porous materials like hay or straw help reduce heat loss and support curing.
