Introduction

When a set of data is collected, it is often useful to find a value that represents the center of the data. Measures of center help summarize data and make it easier to understand patterns and compare data sets.

A teacher gives a quiz to five students and records their scores.

To describe the center of the group, we use measures of center. A measure of center is a value that describes the center, or a typical value, of a data set.
