Usando métodos similares, los investigadores también compararon los umbrales de volumen de las personas con audición normal con aquellos con discapacidades para identificar la naturaleza de los déficits. Frecuencias específicas se vieron afectadas, como a 4 y 5 kHz, mientras que otras fueron normales, lo que sugiere que la enfermedad o el daño es la causa, no el envejecimiento. Además, el enfoque se puede utilizar para evaluar las consecuencias de varios tipos de experiencias en el sistema auditivo. The staircase procedure is an efficient method for finding a perceptual threshold. Here, the stimulus is adjusted step by step based on a person’s response. The method helps identify when a signal first becomes detectable.
