Kinematic Equations - II

La primera ecuación cinemática expresa la velocidad en función de la velocidad inicial y el cambio en la velocidad.
Para derivar la segunda ecuación cinemática, se utilizan dos ecuaciones para la velocidad x promedio durante un intervalo desde t igual a cero hasta un tiempo posterior t. La primera ecuación para la velocidad promedio x es el cambio en el desplazamiento a lo largo del cambio en el tiempo, como se discutió en lecciones anteriores. Aquí, la posición inicial se denota por x0 en el tiempo t igual a cero y x en el tiempo posterior t.
Suponiendo que la aceleración es constante, la velocidad x promedio también se puede representar como el promedio de las velocidades en los tiempos inicial y final. Sustituyendo aquí la primera ecuación cinemática, se obtiene una ecuación para la posición x en función del tiempo.
Esta ecuación muestra que la posición de un objeto en cualquier momento t es la suma de su posición inicial, la distancia recorrida a una velocidad inicial constante y la distancia recorrida durante el cambio de velocidad.

De manera similar a la primera ecuación cinemática, esta ecuación también solo es válida cuando la aceleración es constante durante todo el movimiento de un objeto. 

 Supongamos que un automóvil se incorpora al tráfico de una autopista en una rampa de 200 m de largo. Si su velocidad inicial es de 10 m/s y acelera a 2 m/s2, entonces el tiempo que tarda el automóvil en recorrer la rampa de 200 m se puede calcular utilizando la segunda ecuación cinemática. Aquí, las magnitudes conocidas son la distancia de 200 m, la velocidad inicial del automóvil de 10 m/s y la aceleración de 2 m/s2. Utilizando la segunda ecuación cinemática:

 Utilizando la fórmula cuadrática para resolver el tiempo, obtenemos dos soluciones: t = 10 s y t = -20 s. The second kinematic equation relates an object’s final position to its initial position, its starting velocity, and the extra distance gained as velocity changes. It is used only when acceleration stays constant during the motion. That makes it useful for straight-line motion problems with a steady rate of acceleration.

A car merging onto a 200 m freeway ramp is a good example. In the example, the car starts at 10 m/s and accelerates at 2 m/s². The known values are the distance, the initial velocity, and the acceleration, so the second kinematic equation can be used to find the time.

Substituting the values into the equation leads to a quadratic equation for time. Solving it gives two answers: t = 10 s and t = −20 s. The negative time is not reasonable, because it would mean the motion happened 20 s before it started, so that solution is discarded. The time for the car to travel the 200 m ramp is 10 s.
