Average and Instantaneous Velocity Vectors

La velocidad media se da como la relación entre el desplazamiento y el intervalo de tiempo durante ese desplazamiento. En un espacio bidimensional, el vector de desplazamiento, Δr, representa el cambio de posición.
Si se considera la velocidad en un momento dado, el tiempo transcurrido tiende a cero. Ahora bien, el límite de la velocidad media se aproxima a la velocidad instantánea y es igual a la derivada del vector de posición con respecto al tiempo.
La dirección del vector de velocidad instantánea en cualquier punto es siempre a lo largo de una línea tangente a la trayectoria en ese punto.
Las componentes de la velocidad en un espacio bidimensional son las derivadas temporales de las coordenadas x e y. Por lo tanto, el vector de velocidad instantánea es la suma que involucra dos vectores unitarios.
Al describir un movimiento tridimensional, el eje z también está involucrado, y el vector de velocidad se representa mediante tres vectores unitarios.
En el vector de velocidad instantánea, la magnitud representa la velocidad del objeto.

La velocidad a la que se mueve un objeto se determina por la rapidez con la que cambia la posición en función del tiempo. Para cada posición, se asigna un tiempo particular. Si los detalles del movimiento en cada instante no son importantes, la velocidad se expresa generalmente como la velocidad promedio v. Este vector de velocidad simplemente es la distancia total entre dos puntos dividida por el tiempo que se tarda en viajar entre ellos, también conocido como tiempo transcurrido. Sin embargo, dado que los objetos en el mundo real se mueven continuamente en el espacio y el tiempo, la velocidad de un objeto en cualquier punto es un parámetro importante. Position change and instant velocity are key ideas in kinematics. To describe motion, time must be included. Time tells us where an object is and how fast it is moving.

The speed of an object comes from how its position changes with time. Each position is tied to a specific time. When the details of motion at each instant are not important, the rate is given as average velocity. Average velocity is a vector. It equals the total displacement between two points divided by the elapsed time.

Real objects move continuously through space and time. Because of that, velocity at a single point along the path is also important. This is called instantaneous velocity, and it is often just called velocity. It is the average velocity between two points in the limit where the time interval, and therefore the displacement, approaches zero. Like average velocity, instantaneous velocity is a vector with units of length per time.
